EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, overall
employment of surveyors, cartographers, surveying and
mapping technicians is expected to increase by 21 percent from
2006 to 2016. Increasing demand for fast, accurate, and
complete geographic information will be the main source of
growth for these occupations.
In addition to openings from growth, job openings will
continue to arise from the need to replace workers who
transfer to other occupations or who leave the labor force
altogether. Many of the workers in these occupations are
approaching retirement age. Opportunities for surveyors
and cartographers should remain concentrated in
engineering, surveying, mapping, building inspection, and
drafting services firms. However, employment may
fluctuate from year to year with construction activity or
with mapping needs for land and resource management.
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM
Students should maintain contact with the program coordinator
and academic advisors at CCBC–Catonsville to monitor their
progress.
STATEWIDE PROGRAM:
As stated in CCBC’s 2011-2012 college catalog, CCBC has chosen
to provide students who are out-of-county, Maryland residents
enrolled in this Statewide Program a discount of 50% of the out-ofcounty differential at the time of registration, instead of requiring
students to pay in full and receive a subsequent reimbursement.
