Degree Requirements
n Choose from the following courses to
complete 24 hours (8 courses):
The 37-hour Master of Arts in English program is
designed to prepare students for teaching, further
graduate work, creative writing or related writing
and research fields. Choose from a thesis track
r Seventh-Century Prose and Poetry
(ENGL 5301)
r Eigthteenth-Century Prose and Poetry
(ENGL 5302)
culminating in a research paper or a non-thesis
r Shakespeare (ENGL 5303)
route with coursework only. Students in both tracks
r Studies in British Literature (ENGL 5304)
complete a comprehensive examination at the end of
r Middle Ages (ENGL 5305)
their studies.
r Linguistics (ENGL 5306)
u ADMISSION: To be considered for the program,
r Young Adult Literature (ENGL 5309)
applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an

accredited university, 12 hours of upper-level English
r American Romanticism and Realism
courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all under-
