Are the institutional support, equipment and other physical resources available to the investigators adequate for the project proposed? Will the project benefit from unique features of the scientific environment, subject populations, or collaborative arrangements? 2 ENVIRONMENT Facilities: • Describe how the scientific environment will contribute to the probability of success of the project, and unique features of the environment. • Discuss ways in which the proposed studies will benefit from unique features of the scientific environment or subject population or will employ useful collaborative arrangement. 2 Facilities Section • Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) – will require the institutional investment in the success of the investigator. – e.g. classes, travel, training, collegial support, administrative support, and financial support. (i.e. – GET A LETTER FROM YOUR CHAIR) • Definition of Early Stage Investigator (ESI): Within 10 years of completing their terminal research degree or within ten years of completing their medical residency. If Early Stage Investigators or New Investigators, do they have appropriate experience and training? If established, have they demonstrated an ongoing record of accomplishments that have advanced their field(s)? Personal Statement Positions and Honors Contribution to Science Research Support Limited to 5 pages 6 Biographical Sketch Section A - Personal Statement Briefly describe why your experience and qualifications make you particularly well-suited for your role (e.g. PD/PI, collaborator, mentor, etc.) in the project that is the subject of the application. Training / technical experience Previous experimental work relating to project May identify up to four peer reviewed publications that highlight your qualifications for the project Impediments to past productivity (family care, illness, disability, active service. This part of the Biosketch WILL have to be revised for EVERY proposal submission depending on your role on the project. Biographical Sketch Section B – Positions and Honors List in chronological order previous positions, concluding with the present position. List any honors. Include present membership on any Federal Government public advisory committee. Biographical Sketch Section C – Contribution to Science – NEW!!! Briefly describe up to five of your most significant contributions to science. Historical background that frames the scientific problem; the central finding(s); the influence of the finding(s) on the progress of science or the application of those finding(s) to health or technology; and your specific role in the described work. Reference up to four peer-reviewed publications or other nonpublication research products that are relevant to the described contribution. Provide a URL to a full list of your published work as found in a publicly available digital database such as SciENcv or My Bibliography (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/), which are maintained by the US National Library of Medicine. Biographical Sketch Section D – Research Support List both selected ongoing and completed research projects for the past three years (Federal or non-Federally-supported). Begin with the projects that are most relevant to the research proposed in the application. Briefly indicate the overall goals of the projects and responsibilities of the key person identified on the Biographical Sketch. Do not include number of person months or direct costs.
