THEATRE PRACTICE
TECHNICAL THEATRE PRACTICUM
REPORT FORM Please write legibly! Please return the form to the department Office Manager in Browne Hall 101 by the date posted in the departmental lobby.
The Department of Theatre and Dance believes in the philosophy of a well-balanced program of theory and practice. To provide for that
balance, Theatre Practice 130, 230, 330, 430 and Technical Theatre Practicum 151 and 251 have been developed. The course requirements are
explained in this document.
The courses do not meet as regular classes. Instead, students work on productions. For all Theatre Practice courses, acting, directing,
technical, or front-of-house work is acceptable. For both Technical Theatre Practicum courses, only technical work is acceptable. While working on
each activity for a production, the student will be under the supervision of a specific faculty member or graduate assistant. This person becomes the
supervisor for the activity and will provide the student with the majority of the grade.
To receive a grade in these courses, six points must be accumulated by the student during the semester of registration. The quality of each
activity will be graded by the supervisor of the activity and by any faculty or staff member who saw the activity. The grade will be based only on activities
that are not required in any other course. Each activity will be given a point total to ensure that everyone is putting in approximately the same amount of
time for the same grade.
If the student does not accumulate six points, the grade will be lowered one letter grade for each point shy of six. For example, if a student did
a role for 4 points and got an “A” for it and did nothing else, the studentʼs grade would be lowered two letter grades to a “C”. If the student received an
“A” for a two point project and an “A” for a 3 point project, totaling 5 points, the grade would be lowered by one letter grade to a “B”. The point value is
determined by the chart on the other side of this sheet. If the student acquires more than 6 points, the grade will be weighted - the grade would be
raised in a borderline case. If in the facultyʼs opinion it was obviously heavy burden (10 or more points), the grade would be raised a full letter grade if
possible. The final grade is a combination of the quantity of work as well as the quality.
In order to receive credit for these courses, this form must be submitted by the date posted in the departmental lobby in Browne Hall. If
the form is not received by that date, and you are enrolled in the course, you will receive a grade of “F” for the course.
List whatever activity you have done in theatre and dance on campus this semester. In each case, please indicate the name of the supervisor
you worked with (i.e. director, costumer, technical director, etc.) and the number of points the activity is assigned - see the point chart on the reverse side
of this form.
In addition, check with your supervisor to be sure he/she will be at the meeting to assign grades. If they will not attend, then have that person
submit a WRITTEN grade report to the faculty member in charge of theatre practice. Only the information on this sheet will be counted toward your
grade.
