2016 PPI Graduate Student Assistant Scholarship Application
Applications must be received by: April 20, 2016
Every summer NASP partners with George Washington University (GW), Graduate School of Education and
Human Development (GSHED) to host a Public Policy Institute in Washington, DC. NASP annually offers
two scholarships to school psychology graduate students who have a strong interest in attending the
institute, a desire to advocate for school psychology, and are willing and able to volunteer prior to and
during the institute in exchange for a complimentary registration. (Note: All travel expenses are the
responsibility of the graduate student assistant. This scholarship is for a complimentary registration only.)
Applications for this scholarship must be received by close of business on April 20th. Scholarship award
recipients will be selected by the NASP Government and Professional Relations (GPR) committee and
staff and notified by email by May 6 2016.

II. Description of Typical Duties of PPI Graduate Student Assistant:
 Collate
 Copy
 Staple
 Assemble materials including PPI binder, Capitol Hill folders, speaker gifts, etc.
 Before the first day of PPI: Assist in loading, materials at our Bethesda office and unloading
materials on the GW Campus. (Note: This requires some heavy lifting of boxes, food, and drink.)
 Assist in PPI Day 1 setup and registration (6:30 am start time)
o Check in attendees
o Handout materials
o Set up breakfast
o Load ice and sodas into cooler
 Assist in daily set up (7am start time) and clean up and making sure everything is ready for the
next day.
 Assist with miscellaneous tasks as assigned during the PPI. (These tasks typically will not interfere
with your participation in PPI instructional sessions.)
III. Required Dates of Service:
We require all volunteers to work in the NASP office (4340 East West Hwy, Bethesda, MD 20814)
Wednesday (July 13), Thursday (July 14), and Friday (July 15). It is possible that volunteers may also have
to meet on Saturday and Sunday for a couple of hours. Weekend needs are “to be determined”.
Volunteers are required to help set up and clean up daily during the institute.

V. Terms of Agreement
The awarding of a scholarship would represent NASP’s faith that you have:
 A strong interest in attending the PPI;
 A desire to advocate for school psychology; and
 A willingness to use the skills you will learn at the PPI to further advance advocacy in your state.
Our intention is for you to help promote increased outreach and communication to your public officials
and to increase awareness throughout NASP membership that advocacy is a professional obligation.
In addition to sharing the benefits of this training with others, we are asking as a condition of your
acceptance of any scholarship, that you commit to at least two of the following activities (mark all that

Enlisting a group of fellow graduate students or school psychologists to join you for a visit to one
of your Congressional Representatives or Senators in their local office
Writing an advocacy related article for your state school psychology association newsletter or the
NASP Communiqué
Volunteering for a two hour shift at the Government and Professional Relations (GPR) Convention
booth at the 2017 NASP Convention (and/or future conventions)
Other advocacy related activity proposed by you and approved by the NASP GPR committee.
