Thank you for all your extraordinary efforts! Enrollment this fall is higher than anticipated. New student enrollment increased by eight percent. BHSU now has a total of headcount of 4,395 including students from all 66 counties in South Dakota, 43 states and 27 countries. Here’s some highlights: The number of Honors students more than doubled as compared to last year; More students are taking 15 credit hours or more (the number required to graduate in four years), a seven percent increase. In January 2009 Canon U.S.A. selected Jennifer to be one of the world’s 36 best photographers for the Explorer Of Light program, an elite group of internationally recognized photographers, Jennifer Wu is an internationally known landscape photographer, specializing in creating stunning images of the night sky and stars. Jennifer has spent over 28 years photographing, dedicating 10 years to traditional black and white photography. She has lectured on photography and exhibited her images worldwide. Her images have been published in numerous magazines, books and newspapers including Fortune, Popular Photography, PDN, Shutterbug, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek and Time. Jennifer enjoys sharing her passion and teaching techniques for shooting nature photography through seminars and workshops for The California State University of Sacramento, Canon U.S.A., Light Photographic Workshops, a Film International Film Workshops in Spain and other photographic groups nationwide. She has lead workshops in Yosemite, Death Valley, Alaska, Hawaii and internationally in Iceland, Tanzania, Namibia and more. Jennifer is the co‐author and photographer of the book, Photography Night Sky: A Field Guide to Shooting After Dark (2014, Mountaineers Books). Also taking place that day will be an open house for the Black Hills State University photography program. The public is invited to tour the photography facilities at BHSU and view student work. BHSU Yellow Jacket Vets Club recognizes POW‐MIA veterans with display The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Vets Club is honoring fellow veterans for National POW/MIA Recognition Day, today. A solitary round table was set up in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union this week to recognize veterans who have been prisoners of war or who are still missing in action. BHSU opens theater season with ‘Fat Pig’ In society people are judged by their appearances. The Black Hills State University theater department is bringing to light the serious issue of body shaming in its opening performance for the fall theater season. “Fat Pig” will be performed Thursday, Oct. 8, Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Pangburn Theatre on the BHSU campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $8 for senior citizens and children 17 and younger; $5 for BHSU faculty and staff; and free for BHSU students with a Buzz Card. The show includes strong adult themes and adult language.
