Students are required to complete the 2106 Spring Attendance Confirmation to confirm they will or will not be

attending and how the bill will be paid. For those receiving federal student aid, the excess financial aid will
not be disbursed until this is complete. The first expected date of excess aid either being directly deposited, or Final Exams
mailed, is January 8th, if all paperwork is complete. Bill for 2016 Spring charges are due January 21st.

Time to search for outside scholarships for next year so you can complete by deadlines! BHSU has an Outside
Scholarship Database available to search for donors’ scholarships submitted for BHSU students,
[www.bhsu.edu/scholarships]www.bhsu.edu/scholarships. Scroll down to database, choose location as
“Outside Scholarships”. Donors submit these on a daily basis, make sure to check often if one will match your
criteria! Also other sites where students can search for free are listed on Financial Aid’s webpage, Outside

Honorary Doctorate presentation about Wounded Knee

Jerome Greene, noted historian and author who will receive an honorary degree from BHSU during this fall’s
commencement, will be doing a presentation on Friday, Dec 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Meier Recital Hall. His
presentation is titled ‐ “Lakota Memories of Wounded Knee, 1890: Perspectives of a People."

Commencement
Mr. Greene is a retired historian, curator, and manager with the National Park Service and the author of 17
books, four of which deal with South Dakota history, besides numerous articles, reviews, and government
history reports, including National Historic Register and National Historic Landmark nominations. A native of
northern New York State, he is a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of Black Hills State University (1968) and the
University of South Dakota (1969), and has completed postgraduate work at the University of Oklahoma. You
are invited to attend his presentation.

Student Technology Fellow Positions Available
The Student Technology Fellow Programs has 2 open positions beginning with the Spring 2016 semester. To be
eligible you must be a South Dakota resident, an undergraduate, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, and
complete 30 credit hours during the academic year. STFs work an average of 11 hours/week. For more

applications will begin December 18 and end when the positions are filled.

$2000 for local charities.

Service Learning Program provides experiential education opportunities for students to address human and community
needs, promoting student learning and development. During Spring break students who join the program will travel to
PHILIPPINES! Join us at an Info Session and learn more about the program ‐ the course's agenda, application process etc.
All faculty involved will be there to answer any of the questions you might have. Let's get your passports ready!

BHSU graduate Megan Hohn to enter professional teaching career
Black Hills State University Honors student Megan Hohn will receive her elementary education and early
childhood special education degree from Parkston and former Honors Club president graduate this December.
BHSU student Chase Vogel reflects on vast opportunities as graduation day nears
As Chase Vogel prepares to earn his degree on Dec. 12, he reflects on his time at Black Hills State University
and the everlasting impressions the University faculty, staff and students have left him with. Vogel will use his
experiences and vast relationships as he applies to become a U.S. Ambassador in Germany.
BHSU artist credits faculty, fellow students for creative growth
Jessica Hill is creative. And from the moment she stepped on the Black Hills State University campus, she was
able to cultivate her creativity as an artist and graphic designer and prepare for a career.
On Saturday, Dec. 12, Hill, along with more than 200 candidates for graduation, will walk across the stage in
the Donald E. Young Sports & Fitness Center and receive their diploma from BHSU. BHSU student organizations recognized during SD BOR meeting
Three Black Hills State University student organizations were recognized during the December South Dakota
Board of Regents meeting held at BHSU recently.
