FINE ARTS ATC 3M - Grade 11 Dance This dance course is an introduction to jazz, ballet and modern/contemporary dance. Students learn basic technique and composition skills within each dance form and work in small groups on choreography. By the end of the course, students will have experience performing in front of their peers and a small public audience ADA 10 - Grade 9 Drama This course will give students onstage confidence as they explore stage movement, mime and improvisation. Students will generally work in groups towards performances so teamwork and collaboration are emphasized throughout the semester. By the end of the semester, students will put together performances that they have written, directed and performed all on their own. ASM 4M - Media Arts In this course, students will learn about digital photography, film/video, sound, interactivity, animation, installation and mixed media. Students are expected to solve creative problems using the tools and materials of their choice; for example, cameras, paint, performance, computers and digital recording. There is a $10.00 course material fee. Pre-requisite - any grade 10 Arts Course. This course is not offered in 2016-2017 as it runs alternating years. ATC 4M - Grade 12 Dance This course aims primarily towards producing a contemporary show by the end of the semester. Choreography becomes increasingly complex and based around a main concept/theme. Rehearsals and group work are very important in this process, which means students must be ready, willing and dedicated in order to present a professional show for a public audience. Prerequisite: Gr.11 Dance ADA2O - Grade 10 Drama In this course, students will deepen their understanding of stage movement, mime, and improvisation through musical theatre and mask work. Students will begin using text more in performance through a major unit on scene studies. Students will be challenged to write, direct and perform their own material as well. Pre-requisite - None Strongly recommend ADA10 or teacher approval. More Fine Arts courses available in the areas of Music and Visual Arts ADA 3M - Grade 11 Drama This course builds on the skills learned in grade 10 and begins to explore different styles of acting. Children’s theatre, Melodrama and theatre of the Absurd are examined and performed. The emphasis is on characterization, context and blocking. A willingness to perform in group and solo roles is essential. Prerequisite: ADA1O or ADA2O ADA 4M - Grade 12 Drama Sr. Drama students in this course will explore important periods in theatre history. From the roots of theatre in the Western World to Commedia dell Atre, Elizabethan, and Modern Canadian theatre, actors will experiment with style, blocking, directing and characterization. There will be a strong focus on confidence and context in performance. Auditioning techniques and self assessment are emphasized. Prerequisite: ADA 3M AEA 4O- Exploring and creating in the Arts Students will learn everything there is involved in the mounting of a big show for a public audience. Production skills involve: scripting to set design, lights, sound, costumes, props, and all of the behind the scenes work necessary to put on a show. Since this course culminates in performance commitment and dedication are necessary and expected. Prereq: 1 fine art credit and teacher recommendation
