Mortar Board Chapter Meeting October 11, 2012 The president opened the meeting at 10:03 and the attendance was taken. Obstacles 1. need to call video services – get speakers set up 2. What to give them? a) donate somewhere in name of speaker? C. Help? III. CASA Pumpkin Carving: Matt Smith--October 24 and 30 (REAL DATES ACTUALLY OCT. 30/31!!!) A.Current Status 1. Dates actually Oct. 30/31 – Tuesday and Wednesday 2. got a farmer to donate 100 pumpkins, will get them the Sat. before 3. in Hallway in Phelps 4. could reserve rooms to store B. Obstacles 1. where to put pumpkins C. Help? 1. need 3 volunteers to run event 2. 3-5 pm, cut tops off pumpkins, help kids, then clean-up 3. 2 people Tuesday, 1 person Wednesday a)Irma, Mark – Tuesday b)Aaron – Wednesday c) will need to wear costumes HA! IV. Mortar Board Awareness Week: Stephanie Nelson--November 12-16 (NEED TO CHANGE TO THE WEEK OF THE 26TH) a. Current Status 1. week of the 26th, right after Thanksgiving Break a) want something going on every day b) wear shirts during week, on Radio, maybe Bingo c) go to dorms d) do information session e) where to have the table with banners b. International Thanksgiving Dinner: Hana Ogawa--November 11 a. Current Status i. ii. iii. iv. v. made reservation – November 11 got all details from last year’s chair will talk to Phelps sometime this weekend to confirm venue working on flier – done by sometime next week, next meeting will give 4-5 weeks in advance b. Obstacles i. how much money will be received for activities? 1. thank-you notes, cards 2. $100-150 ish ii. ask the President and Mrs. Bultman about butter iii. send emails to faculty members – international 1. recommendations for faculty? iv. how to get reimbursement v. butter (ate with dinner roles), started crafts, eat dinner, finish crafts, write thank you notes vi. estimate of number of students? c. Current Status i. countries all over, men and women, wide variety ii. focused on women in Central and South America 1. continue to focus on women, particularly in developing countries because keys to building communities b.
