IEP Guide distribution see above In-serviced all teachers of Intellectual Disabilities classes fall of 2014 regarding transitions from school to work and community In-serviced all secondary teachers at the 2014 fall Secondary workshop regarding integrated transition plans for students 14+ As of Mar. 11/15 92.5% of IEPs in UGDSB have a transition plan. Advertised IEP Parent Information Morning “Understanding Your Child’s IEP”. o Dufferin Schools Winter 2015 o North Wellington Schools Spring 2015 o City Schools Fall 2015 Special Education Resource Teachers fall in-service 2014 Topic: The importance of parent and student collaboration on the development of their IEP. Policies, Process and Best Practice Guide - includes under best practice - including parents and students in the development and review of the IEP. This was distributed to SERTs and Administrators to share with staff. Teacher Guide to the IEP - teachers to be trained. In-services to be held this year for elementary SERTs and LD/MID/gifted special class teachers, and SERC April 2, 16, 22 27 Provide Reaching In… Reaching Out (RIRO) training to Kindergarten Educators. Kindergarten Teachers and Early Childhood Educators have received RIRO Training in all schools. Update the Tools for Life material for the company as a local project. Pilot the material in several sites. Updated Tools for Life for the Early Years was written by our local community and piloted at Brant Ave, JD Hogarth and 2 schools at Wellington Catholic. 2 Upper Grand District School Board 2014-2015 Goals To help students with IEPs understand their learning profiles by providing information and resources to teachers and support staff who work with these students Actions in 2014-2015 • • • • • • To provide information and resources about technology use at home to support the learning of students with special needs • • • • • To explore strategies to improve communication with parents of children with IEPs • This topic is included in the Teacher Guide to the IEP teachers to be trained (upcoming training sessions) see above Individual SEA training with Learnstyle is highlighting students’ learning style Continuing throughout 2014-2015 Itinerant teachers are supporting students with selfadvocacy goals in the IEPs Itinerant Teachers are collecting data is about the % of IEPs that contain self-advocacy goals when student is supported by an itinerant teacher. Parent letters have gone out with each SEA package to schools providing information on ways to access technology at home along with bookmarks for login info. Elementary and Secondary information about home use has been provided with new and refreshed claims. Training sessions have been arranged through SEA to be open for parent participation. Electronic summary of training sessions are available for parents requesting this information. The SEA Manual is being revised to reflect current practices regarding home use. Parent survey for the IEP audit to be completed by committee including parent and student voice. 3
