“Where Children Come First”
DECEMBER 2014
It was great to see so many parents who took the time to come in and talk to the teachers about their child’s
progress. The progress reports are an excellent opportunity to set goals for your child for the upcoming report
card in February.
As the weather quickly changes, and we get excited about the onset of winter activities, please remind your
child about the importance of safety while playing, walking and running in slippery, wet and snowy conditions.
Although snowballs are a lot of fun we do not allow the throwing of snowballs at school.
Crazy carpets are not allowed to be used at recess. It is very difficult to supervise and can often result in injuries to students. Teachers can take their classes out for sledding but this is teacher discretion.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
During inclement weather, if you hear the radio announcement “All school taxis and buses in
South Wellington and the City of Guelph will not be operating today ” then Rickson’s buses are cancelled
however school is open. During times of inclement weather, please listen to: either 1460 AM CJOY, 106.1 Magic
FM, 900 AM CHML, 107.9 FM CJXY, Oldies 1090 AM, 105.3 Kool FM, News Talk 570 AM, 96.7 FM CHYM,
1150 AM CKOC, 102.9 FM CKLH, 820 AM CHAM or CKCO-TV for school transportation cancellations. You
could also check the Board website (www.ugdsb.on.ca) by clicking on the yellow bus on the home page. Information is posted by 6:30am.

only have to type it once!) No password is required for the site. To access UG2GO, junior and intermediate
students will need to use their regular Windows user name and password. Primary students can use the generic user name and password jk1234.
OUTDOOR RECESS
The temperatures have been very inconsistent so far this year. However we are expecting the
weather to get chillier and potentially lots of snow. Please remember to assist your child in wearing
the proper clothing to school. Outdoor shoes/boots for all students is necessary. When wearing
only one pair of shoes both inside and outside dirt and mud are tracked into the school and it becomes
onerous to keep the floors clean. Please help your child in remembering outdoor shoes/boots. All students are expected to participate in outdoor recess, as this important active break aids concentration
and success in the classroom. Our play structures are now closed until late spring.
