Recent information has revealed that the batteries in the devices may explode while charging or spontaneously combust during use causing danger to the user, bystanders and the surrounding environment. Until the safety standards of these devices are approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and certified by an OSHA nationally recognized testing laboratory, the Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management Department is currently banning hoverboards from any university buildings or campus property. The Residence Life Department at SFA plans to raze Todd Hall and University Woods after the end of the spring 2016 semester. Future Plans: The university has been approved to build a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) building on the Todd Hall footprint. A new Residence Life Operations and Printing Services building will be built on the University Woods location. The Residence Life maintenance department has been located in Gibbs Hall since 1991. The new facility will provide a structure that is designed specifically to meet the needs of our maintenance and custodial staff. Printing Services is currently located in the Rusk Building and they will move their operation to the new site as well. The new facility should open early in 2017. The Residence Life Department looks forward to the progress that the university is making for our students. ↑ University Woods was built across from the Johnson Coliseum on University Drive in 1980. The demand for housing was at a peak during this time as students who were required to live on campus (less than 21 years old and less than 66 hours) were being shuttled to three local hotels during this time. The 32 one and two bedroom apartments can house up to 94 residents. The 8 quad, 2-story building originally housed upperclass students and families. In 2009 the building was converted to a residence hall and housed upperclass students. The University Woods residents will be given priority when selecting their housing assignment for fall 2016. ←Todd Hall was built in 1962. It originally housed 108 female students and was later converted to house male athletes. In 1986, this 3story building was converted back to female residents when the athletes moved to Hall 20. The current upperclass female students will be given priority when selecting their housing assignment for fall 2016.
