An Application Guide From the Experts in Business-Critical Continuity™ Full Facility Surge Protection – Fire Alarm Panels Application Guide Fire Alarm Panels A fire alarm control panel (FACP), is the central control device that receives information from input devices such as (smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual fire alarm stations, etc.). This panel then processes the information to trigger an output device (bells, horns, or strobes). "Dirty Power" can damage fire control panels, its sensors and even output devices, resulting in serious safety issues. Emerson Network Power recommends surge protection on any copper wire circuit entering or leaving a fire panel to protect against the damaging effects of lightning, spikes, and surges. Typical installation may be close-nipple up to a panel/circuit or hardwired in parallel up to power supply input terminal screws with leads dressed as short as possible. Emerson Network Power also recommends surge protection to be installed on all data and phone lines, in order that fire alarm systems will be guarded from what we commonly refer to as “backdoor” transients and noise. These transients occur more frequently than high impulse occurrences such as lightning strikes and are usually generated from other equipment operating within a facility. The PowerSure™ FAS-120AC surge suppressor is designed to protect AC distribution panel circuits or 120V power supplies feeding sensitive electronic equipment. The Edco™ HSP121BT-1RU is a hardwire 3-stage hybrid protector, featuring a 15 amp replaceable fuse, failure indicator and noise filtering. In the rare event of the unit failing, the equipment is removed from the load. The Edco FAS-1-043 is a multi-stage single pair surge suppressor designed for high exposure applications. This product was specifically designed to meet multiple low voltage protection applications in the fire/security and CCTV industries. This unit will work for 24 volts AC or DC, up to 2.5 amps. The Edco SLCP-043 is a four-wire module designed to protect Signaling Line Circuits (SLC). The device has 0 ohms of resistance and offers line to ground protection. Easily plugs into the Edco PCB1B-WKEY base. An Edco PC642 surge suppressor is recommended on the PTZ data lines at the head end (DVR), as well as the camera end. This is a two-pair (four-wire) module implementing threestage hybrid technology, allowing it to protect against multiple surge events without replacement. The Edco PC642 easily plugs into the Edco PCB1B-WKEY base. Edco HSP121BT-1RU PowerSure FAS-120AC Edco SRS-232 Edco FAS-1-043 Edco SLCP-043 The Edco LCDP is designed to conveniently protect eight- wire, low voltage data circuits and employs two RJ-45 jacks for easy installation. The Edco PHC-043 is a rugged series hybrid designed to protect two pairs of wires specifically for alarm and security systems where operating currents can be as high as 5 Amps. The Edco PHC-043 easily plugs into the Edco PCB1B-WKEY base. Surge suppression is needed to protect both phone lines of a commercial fire alarm panel. The Edco PC2-TEL is a solid state, two-line telephone interface protector module. This unit is specifically designed to protect both phone lines required by commercial fire/security alarm panels. Easily plugs Edco PC2-TEL into the Edco PCB1B-WKEY base.
