OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY SUMMER MUSIC CAMP - JUNE 12-17, 2016 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR CAMPERS I. REPORTING FOR CAMP ON SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2016 12:00-2:00 Check-In – All resident campers check-in at dorms. (see map) Girls will be in LIMA Hall. Boys will be in ROBERTS Hall. Campers check into dorms, meet counselors and other campers. You may drop off large wind instruments at Freed Center, and large strings at Presser. Counselors will help you. 2:00 Resident and Day Campers: General Camp Meeting, Presser Recital Hall followed by auditions. Please refer to Sunday Schedule for more information II. WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR You must bring your own linens or toiletries. You need to furnish your own sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels. Bring soap for the sink and shower. Bath rugs are recommended. Bring a nice outfit to wear for concerts (dresses, skirts, shirts and ties). Bring other clothing for comfort. You may wear slacks, shorts, or general school type of clothing. Avoid extremes. All campers must wear shoes. Identify your clothing and personal items with your name. The ONU Bookstore carries a some toilet articles and ONU clothing, etc. Rite Aid is within walking distance. You should bring an alarm clock for your room. There are no dorm phones – cell phones are recommended– Verizon is the main carrier in Ada. All necessary medications must be noted on medical form and the Dean of Women/Men should be notified at check-in. III. AUDITIONS AND INSTRUMENTS BAND and ORCHESTRA CHAIR PLACEMENT AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Bring something you have prepared to play for auditions (one minute). Practice major scales through three sharps and flats. Percussionists should also know rudiments. Bring instruments and accessories. Brass players bring mutes and oil. Drummers bring stick bags. Woodwind players bring reeds. Strings bring rosin. Make sure your instrument is in good working condition. Your name should be clearly marked on the outside of the case. Some reeds and other accessories will be available to buy on Sunday in the lobby of Presser Hall. VOCAL AUDITIONS: Be prepared to sing a short selection for placement. SHOW CHOIR: In addition to a vocal selection, you will be asked to demonstrate a short dance movement. All campers are able to audition for CHOIR and SHOW CHOIR, not just vocalists. JAZZ BAND: Trumpet, trombone and saxes should notify their auditioner that they are interested in JAZZ BAND, and you will audition at that time. DRUMS, BASS, PIANO, AND GUITAR will have a separate audition. You should be able to demonstrate chart reading and styles. FULL ORCHESTRA: We will need CLARINETS, FLUTES, OBOES, BASSOONS, FRENCH HORNS, TRUMPETS, TROMBONES, TUBA AND PERCUSSION for the FULL ORCHESTRA. Please notify your auditioner that you are interested in this group. For some of you, this may be your first chance to play in a real orchestra! (String players are automatically in this group.) IV. TUITION RESIDENT CAMPERS. All meals are furnished from Sunday supper through Friday supper. Dorm rooms are furnished Sunday through Thursday nights. DAY CAMPERS. Refer to special information for day camper’s sheet. Snacks are at the expense of the campers. Campers will have to keep track of their personal spending money. We suggest that campers bring limited amounts of cash and that valuables be left at home. IV. CAMP CONDUCT: Please see Rules Page for details We have selected a fine group of young people for the camp. We do not anticipate any problems, but should a camper choose not to cooperate, he/she can expect camp discipline, or possibly be sent home. Your faculty, deans, and counselors will all be there for your help. V. DAILY SCHEDULE - MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY You will select your own schedule on Sunday evening. You will follow the same schedule each day (M –Th). Campers will be required to attend rehearsals and the sectional of their instrument/voice plus a minimum of three other classes. However, we would like you to keep one hour free. A list of all classes offered and their descriptions is in your packet. VI. SPECIAL NIGHT SCHEDULE The evening schedule is enclosed. It includes entertainment, rehearsals, recitals, programs, banquet and social activities.
