FACULTY MEETING OCTOBER 21, 2005 In attendance: Martin, Runnels, Daniel, Greer, Swearingen, Pfaffenberg, Perritt, Bridwell, Saracino, Gilbert, Underwood, Mi:re, Russell, Frederick. Dr. Daniel opened the meeting for Dr. Martin. She ask coordinators to give a report on their area: Saracino Child/Family Development has new degree plan finished. New course was offered this faU. Greer Block courses are now over. There are approximately 26 interns this fall working in Dallas, Houston, etc. Linda Nichols is working with visual merchandising students. Students have been putting up displays. Thanked facuJty for their support of the club in selling Belks coupons. Swearingen Interior Design has been working with Art who will be going through their accreditation week ofNov. 1. ID will have projects displayed in the foyer of HMS South. Carved pumpkins will be on display Oct. 28 th • Daniel be $1.00. SDA will be selling caramel apples Wed, Oct. 26 th • Price will Wittenbach Hospitality club is the strongest its been in 5 years; attendance and participation of members is great. Reminded faculty of advising schedule posted on bulletin board in copy room. Dr. Daniel ask about the syllabi attachment and syllabi template online. Nelda has made corrections to the attachment and both are now on the HMS community calendar uoder forms. Dr. Pfaffenberg and Mrs. Runnels are working on Showcase Saturday. Suggestion was made to ask ambassador(s) from each area to attend to answer questions from prospective students. Mildred will email ambassadors and ask volunteer' s to contact Dr. Daniel. Dr. Saracino and Dr. Pfaffenberg reported on the response from survey monkey. There was less than 2% - 3% response rate from alumni and employers. Discussion was made on other ways of feedback. Suggestions were individual groups and board advisors. Discussed having survey on HMS web site. Dr. Pfaffenberg volunteered to coordinate information for survey monkey if the department is interested in acquiring the program. Cost is $20.00 a month and will hold 100 surveys containing 100 questions. Dr. Martin informed faculty of COE's new computer tech, Ed Wittell. He is in charge of data base management. Discussed getting Filemaker Pro for the department. Mr. Wittell will be working to add this program in the department. Mrs. Swearingen reported on the articulation agreement between SF A and Kingwood Community College for Interior Design. After editing, agreement will go to Kingwood Community College for their review. Dr. Martin ask faculty to vote on whether to adopt the new department tenure policy. Dr. Daniel and Dr. Pfaffeoberg go up for review at the end of the month. Mrs. Swearingen made the motion to accept the department tenure policy; Mrs. BridweU motioned second. Faculty voted - all accepted the policy. Dr. Martin reminded faculty that she needed the hard copy along with an electronic copy ofthe AAFeS standards. Dr. Martin reminded faculty that hard cop ies of their faculty activity report is due to her by November 1. Faculty have until Oct. 31 51 to complete the reports on-line. Dr. Martin ask faculty their suggestions on what date would be good for the HMS Advisory Board meeting. It was suggested that we have the meeting the same day as HMS Convocation, April 5,2006. Dr. Martin ask faculty to review over the strategic goals for the department and email ber with the top three items they wou ld like to continue working toward. Dr. Underwood reported on the Distance Alliance meeting. Dr. Jacobson has agreed to be on the steering committee. SFA is still hosting the web site for the distance alliance. Discussion was made on offering graduate on-line distance courses. FTGOTO GAP donated display items to the department; hat displays, mannequins, etc. Homecoming Silent Auction - Bring items for the baskets next Thursday or Friday morning. Dr. Greer will be putting baskets together. TEA Allocated $3.7 million grant (41,000 students). Texas Council on Economic Education, and Bank One will fund Parent Workshops. Requested that she be given any parent groups information that quality. Mrs Bridwell asked that United Way fonns be returned to her.
