Full submission guidelines are available on the website at http://kcactf3.org/playwrights.htm. Ten-Minute Play For KCACTF, a ten-minute play is ten pages or fewer (in 12 point typeface, not including character information or title page). Please note that the maximum limit for this category is ten pages. Up to six one act plays will be chosen as finalists by readers outside the region, and will be given rehearsed readings at the Region 3 Festival. From these six, two finalists will be chosen for the national ten minute play festival at the Kennedy Center, and the playwrights will be asked to submit their scripts to the Kennedy Center for consideration. One Act Play For KCACTF, a one act play is more than ten pages, and less than one hour playing time. Generally 1545 pages in length, a one act play is performed with no intermission. Up to six one act plays will be chosen as finalists by readers outside the region and will be given readings at the Region 3 Festival. From these six, two (2) finalists will be chosen to be considered for the John Cauble Short Play Award, and the playwrights will be asked to submit their scripts to the Kennedy Center for consideration. Full-Length Play This opportunity is for playwrights from schools who have NOT entered this play as either an associate or participating production in Region 3. One full-length play will be chosen for a script-inhand reading at the Region 3 Festival. If selected, the playwright is expected to attend the regional festival where the play will be given a script-in-hand reading. If the playwright cannot attend the festival his/her play will still be eligible for the Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards, provided that the play has been either produced by a college or university, or publicly presented in a “rehearsed” or “staged reading” format following a significant development process. This reading can occur at their home school or at the regional festival (either is acceptable). If chosen to participate in the Region 3 festival, the playwright may choose to bring their own director and cast, or s/he can choose to have a director assigned and a cast selected from among the actors who audition for the ten-minute play readings on the Wednesday afternoon of the festival. The selected play will automatically become eligible for all national awards for full-length plays from the KCACTF (The Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards Program), except the National Student Playwriting Award, which must be awarded to a play entered as a participating production. Please note that the DEADLINE for all National Playwright Program entries (ten-minute play, one act play, full-length play) is NOVEMBER 1st, 2014 at midnight! Submissions will be accepted this year ONLY via the Submittable website. The Region 3 NPP submissions page may be found here: https://kcactfregion3npp.submittable.com/submit Submissions are live, so students may send their plays now if they wish. Please do NOT fill out the forms currently on the KCACTF website - those will be going away in a few days, and any information entered there will be lost. All forms and document submissions should happen via Submittable. Grand Rapids City High School Seeks Director In this coming year, the Speech and Debate program at Grand Rapids City HS would like to provide a theatrical experience for their students. Two years of highly successful musicals at the school have demonstrated a desire for theatre in the student body. The stage production would complement these activities (as well as the competitive Forensics program). To provide this opportunity they are looking for an outside resource (faculty, staff, advanced/graduate student) to help with the direction and staging. This is a first year, “beta” project, part of a longer-term initiative to embed speech, debate and the performing arts as an established part of the extracurricular programming at the school. They anticipate being able to offer a stipend, conditional on present grant requests. For more information, Contact: William Harris wmrharris@sbcglobal.net or Visit: Talk Talk Talk (cityhighforensics.wordpress.com). Student Representative Reminder Bridget McCarthy (senior class), Kenny Cole (junior class), and Sean Zorn (sophomore class), have volunteered to represent their respective classes at council meetings. If you are still interested in becoming a student representative at the weekly Theatre Countil meetings (Tuesdays 12-1:45pm in DeWitt 221), please contact Daina Robins at robins@hope.edu. As a reminder, council meetings are open to all students who would like to attend, except when matters of confidentiality are being discussed Have something you would like to share? Please send an email by Thursday afternoon for inclusion in the Monday newsletter to Reagan Chesnut at chesnut@hope.edu
