Disaster Risk Management Training, Alphen Centre, Constantia The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has its own training establishment at the Alphen Centre in the southern suburb of Constantia, which provides an ideal setting for a Training Centre, situated just across the road from the Constantia Shopping Centre (see map below). Training Courses on offer Commerce and Industry, as well as various Institutions, are encouraged to attend the one-day Emergency Co-ordinator and Warden’s Courses which are based on tried and tested emergency planning principles (refer to course details below). The Event Safety Management Workshop is presented over four days, and provides a good introduction to anyone who is involved or intends to become involved in the events industry. Emergency Planning affects us all! In order to save lives and / or property in the event of an emergency occurring in your place of work until the arrival of the Emergency Services, a number of aspects have to be considered and appropriate action plans drawn up. The first step is to nominate an Emergency Co-ordinator (EC) and preferably a Deputy EC. Once trained, they would have the necessary knowledge to draw up a basic Emergency Plan (EP) with assistance from the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre The second step is that the EC needs the support of other trained personnel, i.e. Wardens and an Emergency Response Team comprising of a Fire Team and First Aiders. The Disaster Risk Management Training Centre is able to train you and your staff and to provide you with an emergency response package, i.e. a trained EC and Wardens and an effective Emergency Plan. Having attained this level of preparedness, the DRMC can test your premises with an emergency exercise. We urge you to nominate individuals who, in the event of an emergency at your building / premises / venue, will have the authority and competency to implement the relevant actions to attend these courses. The DRMC has assisted major commercial, industrial and other institutions / organisations in assessing their potential vulnerability and with their emergency planning. If you are in receipt of this document, we are concerned about your vulnerability. Can you afford to ignore this? CHAOS IS A KILLER. HELP US TO HELP YOU TO BE PREPARED!!
