Statement by the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille City offered alternative sites to the Dunoon group The City of Cape Town is aware of the unfolding situation in Dunoon. This is a direct result of an illegal invasion of a privately-owned piece of land by a group of approximately 25 households. This is the second time that the group in question has invaded the land owned by the New Jerusalem Pentacostal Mission Church of South Africa. The Church has now obtained a court order instructing the group to vacate the land. As part of our efforts to build a Caring City, the City offered to relocate the group to alternative sites owned by the City – an offer that they rejected. In addition to this, the City offered the group humanitarian relief last night. This was also regrettably rejected. I have unsuccessfully sought to meet with the group on Monday this week to establish how the City can assist them. I will now meet them tomorrow night even though this matter is not directly related to the City in any way.
