Investigator Tino Herrera has been in state government since 1990 and with the CDOC since 1992. He began in the correctional series and was hired by the Office of the Inspector General in 2003 as a criminal investigator. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology/Criminology with a minor in Psychology in 1988. Investigator Herrera graduated from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2002. Current memberships include the Colorado Homicide Investigator Association, Colorado STING, and Colorado Association of Sex Crimes Investigators. Investigator Herrera instructs for the Colorado High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy at Otero Junior College. In 2012 Investigator Herrera was appointed Intelligence Coordinator and supervisor of the Unified Intelligence Team, which oversees the Intelligence process for the Colorado Department of Corrections CDOC.
