Badrul Alam Press Release draft Dr. Mohammed Badrul Alam, Professor and Head, Dept. of Political Science, Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi, India, will be Visiting Scholar at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) from September 15 to 24, 2014. During his stay at WSSU, Dr. Alam will deliver a public lecture titled How India-U.S. Relations Impact the World on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 11 am to 12:15 pm in RJ Reynolds room 136. He will focus on relations between India and the US, and address implications for ties with China and African countries in particular. He will be the keynote speaker at the WSSU NEH India Symposium on Friday, September 19, where he will address the role of Islam in India’s democracy (registration required). In addition, Dr. Alam will speak in several classes in Political Science, History and Religious Studies, and have round table discussions with faculty on areas of research interest and collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia University. Dr. Alam is a scholar of India-US Relations; Indian foreign policy and regional politics; nuclear issues in South Asia; India, Africa and the Middle East; diaspora studies; cultural diversity, minority relations and human rights; and South Asian Studies. He has taught for over a two decades in the United States, Japan and India at various educational institutions, before joining Jamia Millia Islamia University in 2006, where he has been Head of the Department of Political Science since January 2013. Dr.Alam is the author of several books including, Perspectives on Nuclear Strategy of India and Pakistan (2013), Indo-US Relations: Dimensions and Emerging Trends (2013), Contours of India’s Foreign Policy: Changes and Challenges (2014), as well as numerous articles, monographs and books reviews published in international journals. He is a recipient of number of prestigious awards including Fulbright Fellowship, Shastri Canadian Foreign Ministry award, DAAD Fellowship, Salzburg Global Fellowship, BadenWuerttemberg Fellowship, and Visiting Scholar at East-West Center. He earned the Ph.D. Degree at Cornell University, where he also earned M.A. degrees in History and Government. He has also earned graduate and undergraduate degrees from Jawaharlal Nehu University, Utkal University and Ravenshaw College in India.
