POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM All students that are admitted to the Environmental Engineering Program must show evidence that they have acquired the academic abilities and skills necessary to progress through this major. Those not demonstrating the complete acquisition of these abilities and skills (as reflected by the results of their College Entrance Examination Board test, results in PUPR placement test, previous university experience, or other tests or criteria) will be required to take preparatory courses. These courses are designed to help them overcome deficiencies in languages, mathematics, and science. These preparatory courses are in addition to the 147 credits of the Environmental Engineering Program. The preparatory courses are the following: PREPARATORY STUDIES COMPONENT COURSE MATH 0102 MATH 0106 MATH 0110 MATH 1330 MATH 1340 SCIE 0110 ATUL 0100 ENGL 0100 ENGL 0110 SPAN 0100 SPAN 0110 SCIE 1110 SCIE 1111 COURSE TITLE Preparatory Mathematics Elementary Algebra Intermediate Algebra Precalculus I Precalculus II Introduction to Physics Adjustment to University Life Preparatory English English Grammar Preparatory Spanish Spanish Grammar General Biology General Biology Laboratory CREDITS 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 4 0 ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CURRICULUM EFFECTIVE: FALL 2012 COURSE MATH 1350 MATH 1360 MATH 1370 MATH 2350 SCIE 1214 SCIE 1215 SCIE 1220 SCIE 1221 COURSE TITLE CREDITS Calculus I Calculus II Calculus III Differential Equations General Chemistry I General Chemistry I Laboratory General Chemistry II General Chemistry II Laboratory 4 4 4 3 4 0 4 0 SCIE 1230 Organic Chemistry 4 SCIE 1231 Organic Chemistry Laboratory 0 SCIE 2110 SCIE 2111 SCIE 1430 SCIE 1431 Environmental Microbiology Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Physics I Physics I Laboratory 4 0 4 1 SCIE 1440 Physics II 4 PRE-REQUISITES MATH 1340 or equivalent MATH 1350 MATH 1360 MATH 1370 and SCIE 1440 MATH 1340 or equivalent MATH 1340 or equivalent SCIE 1214 and SCIE 1215 SCIE 1214 and SCIE 1215 SCIE 1220, SCIE 1221, and MATH 1340 or equivalent SCIE 1220, SCIE 1221, and MATH 1340 or equivalent SCIE 1214 and SCIE 1215 SCIE 1214 and SCIE 1215 MATH 1350 MATH 1350 MATH 1360, SCIE 1430, and SCIE 1431 CO-REQUISITES None None None None SCIE 1215 SCIE 1214 SCIE 1221 SCIE 1220 SCIE 1231 SCIE 1230 SCIE 2111 SCIE 2110 SCIE 1431 SCIE 1430 SCIE 1441 POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM COURSE COURSE TITLE CREDITS PRE-REQUISITES CO-REQUISITES SCIE 1441 Physics II Laboratory 1 SPAN 1010 SPAN 2020 Linguistic Analysis of Literary Genres Business Spanish The Study of the Essay as a Literary Genre Business English and Communication Socio-Humanistic Studies Ethics, Global, and Contemporary Issues Socio-Humanistic Studies or Language Elective Course Engineering Economics Fluid Mechanics Fluid Mechanics Laboratory Engineering Thermodynamics Engineering Mechanics-Statics and Dynamics Engineering Graphics for Civil and Environmental Engineers 3 3 MATH 1360, SCIE 1430, and SCIE 1440 SCIE 1431 SPAN 0110 or equivalent None SPAN 1010 None 3 ENGL 0110 or equivalent None 3 3 3 ENGL 1010 None SOHU 2010 None None None 3 (a) (b) 3 3 1 3 MATH 1360 ENGI 2910 ENGI 2420 and CEE 2210 ENGI 2420 None None None None 3 MATH 1360 and SCIE 1430 MATH 1370 4 None None Engineering Geology 3 ENGL 1010 ENGL 2020 SOHU 2010 SOHU 2040 ENGI 2260 ENGI 2420 ENGI 2421 ENGI 2430 ENGI 2910 CEE 1010 CEE 2110 CEE 2210 CEE 2310 CEE 2311 CEE 3410 ENVE 1011 Probability and Statistics for Civil and Environmental Engineers Algorithms, Programming, and Numerical Analysis Algorithms, Programming, and Numerical Analysis Laboratory Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering Introduction to Environmental Engineering 3 SCIE 1210 or SCIE 1214 MATH 1370 and CE 1011 or ENVE 1011 None None 3 MATH 2350 and CEE 2210 CEE 2311 1 MATH 2350 and CEE 2210 CEE 2310 3 1 ENGI 2420, ENGI 2421, CEE 2310, and CEE 2311 MATH 1350, SCIE 1214, SCIE 1215, and CEE 1010 SCIE 1230, SCIE 2110, ENGI 2430, CEE 2210, and ENVE 1011 SCIE 1230, SCIE 2110, and ENGI 2430 None None ENVE 3010 Environmental Engineering Operations and Processes 3 ENVE 3110 Environmental Toxicology 3 ENVE 3210 ENVE 3220 ENVE 3310 ENVE 3320 Fundamentals of Air Pollution Air Pollution Control Design Solid Waste Management Hazardous Waste Management Design of Aqueducts and Sanitary Sewer Systems Water Quality and Treatment 3 3 3 3 ENVE 3010 and ENVE 3110 ENVE 3310 None None None None 3 CEE 3410 None 3 CEE 3410 and ENVE 3010 None ENVE 3420 ENVE 3430 ENVE 3210 ENVE 3010 and ENVE 3110 None None POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM COURSE COURSE TITLE CREDITS ENVE 4511 Municipal Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Groundwater Pollution Control Industrial Wastewater Treatment, Reuse, and Disposal Environmental Engineering Laboratory I ENVE 4513 Environmental Engineering Laboratory II 1 ENVE 4610 Environmental Impact Assessment 3 ENVE 4710 Pollution Prevention Engineering 3 ENVE 4810 Occupational Safety and Health Environmental Engineering Senior Design Project I Environmental Engineering Senior Design Project II Technical Elective Course Technical Elective Course TOTAL 3 ENVE 3440 ENVE 3450 ENVE 4460 ENVE 4911 ENVE 4920 (c) (c) PRE-REQUISITES CO-REQUISITES 3 ENVE 3430 None 3 CEE 2110 and ENVE 3430 None 3 ENVE 3440 None 1 ENVE 3440 ENVE 3220, ENVE 3320, and ENVE 4511 ENVE 3220, ENVE 3320, ENVE 3440, and ENVE 3450 ENVE 3220, ENVE 3320, and ENVE 4460 ENVE 3220 and ENVE 3320 ENGI 2260, ENVE 3420, and ENVE 4610 None ENVE 4911 None (a) (a) (b) (b) 1 3 3 3 147 Notes: (a) : Pre-requisites vary according to selected course.
