Summer CASA 2015 Teacher CASA (Children’s After School Achievement), a community program of Hope College, invites application for the position of part-time, summer only Teacher for Summer CASA 2015. Application packet deadline: Monday, March 23, 2015. Summer CASA is a six-week, four days a week, morning program. Five classrooms of approximately 15 – 20 students are taught by certified teachers, each assisted by a Teaching Assistant. Academics as well as personal and cultural enrichment are emphasized. Summer CASA 2015 runs Mondays through Thursdays, beginning Monday, June 15 through Thursday, July 23. Teachers’ hours are approximately 8:00am to 12:45pm daily, with a staff meeting until 1:45 once a week. Additional required hours are: (1) Staff Orientation on Saturday , May 2, 9 am – 1:00 pm (2) Staff Training and Planning on Monday and Tuesday, June 10 and 11 The pay rate is $18.00 per hour. Summer Teacher responsibilities include: Fostering a positive, safe, and creative learning environment; developing classroom curriculum, lesson plans and objectives to address the academic needs of at-risk students; supervision of a Teaching Assistant and volunteers; planning field trips and transporting students in Hope College vans; student supervision before, during, and after class; attending scheduled meetings; presenting a short workshop(s) on a personal interest topic of choice to groups of CASA students; and other tasks as assigned by supervisors. Teachers are expected to work the entire duration of the summer program. Additional skills and qualifications: Demonstrated successful experience teaching ethnically and economically diverse populations of elementary students, and flexibility and enthusiasm for service. The ability to communicate in Spanish is highly preferred. Teachers must have a valid teaching certification, a valid driver’s license held for at least two years, and an excellent driving record.
