Head’s Message
Bramford Primary serves a strong, established, Black Country Community centred in
Woodsetton. Our school is a happy, thriving community housed in a two form entry building
with its own Nursery as a key feature of our Foundation Stage. A new suite of classrooms,
administration wing and a Community Sports Hall were completed in October 2005.
As Headteacher, it is particularly pleasing to report on the strong team approach that we
have established. The school's ethos supports our caring and considerate approach to
everyone associated with our school.
Our community association is the key to our close links with parents, outside agencies and
other partners. We are an Extended school, offering clubs, activities, childcare and holiday
play schemes, in addition to training and adult education for parents and friends of the
school.
The staff's team approach to all aspects of school life has proved itself highly effective and
efficient. Our pupils progress through a broad and balanced primary curriculum that lays
great emphasis on creativity. We endeavour to develop all of our pupil's talents and
abilities, which is equally true of all the staff who work with me.
Bramford is part of a large Network Learning Community sharing and actively learning with
and from our colleagues. We have established links with our local specialist sports college
and aim to contribute to the health, enjoyment and development of our local community via
our sports coaches.
Our aim is to address the life-long learning needs of our neighbourhood from nursery
children through to grandparents.

INTRODUCTION
The aim of this information pack is to assist you in getting to know Bramford Primary School and
Foundation Unit.
Our intention is to enhance the co-operation that exists between our school and its community.
The insight you gain into our organisation, staffing, school rules and school routine should go a long
way towards achieving this aim.
HISTORY
Bramford Primary opened on 11th January 1955 with 214 pupils and 6 staff. The original building
housed 5 - 11 year old pupils. The first Head was Mr Gowland who did much to give Bramford its
good name, setting traditions and standards that have proved to be of lasting value. Mr Gowland
died in March 1976. Mr D Hemmings then took over for the next 5 years. Mr Deryck Noakes started
in 1981 and remained until his retirement in July 2006, after 25 years service. He was replaced by,
Mr Len Hazlehurst, who left in March 2012. Mrs Williams has been appointed as Acting
Headteacher until further notice.
ACCOMMODATION
There are 14 classrooms, a Foundation Unit and various other teaching areas available to
accommodate our pupils. The hall is used for school meals. We have a mini Sports Hall for PE, and
an after school activities and community room.
There is a Reception Area, Administrative suite, Deputy Headteacher's Office and Headteacher's
Office
CHARACTERISTICS.
Bramford is an equal opportunities Primary School covering the age range 3 - 11 years.
At present there are 396 pupils in the main school with 78 half day places in our Foundation Unit.
We have our own playing fields and millennium playground.
ORGANISATION
To realise our aims, we have an internal organisation based upon trust, understanding and selfdiscipline.
Class groups are not static and do change. However, they are designed to give as much security
and stability as possible. At present there are teams of professionals working together to cover the
age groups Foundation led by Mrs Moss, Years 1, 2 & 3 led by Mrs Millard, and Years 4, 5 & 6 led
by Miss Moores. Mr Scott is the Assistant Head and Ms Handley is our Deputy Headteacher.
Over the next decade all schools will have to adjust to many new ideas. However, it is our intention
to work with parents and pupils to build mutual understanding. It is only together that we can
produce a school that we are all proud of.

THE SCHOOL DAY
Arrival at school
Parents are requested not to allow children to arrive at school any earlier than 8.35am, prior to the
bell for the start of school at 8.45am.
Parents leaving pupils unattended for the period prior to the start of school do so at their own risk.
End of school day
Will parents please ensure that their child knows the arrangements for going home, i.e. who, if
anyone, is meeting them, where they are to be met and their destination. We will not allow children
up to and including Year 4 to go home alone.
Should parents wish to change these arrangements at short notice, then a telephone call to the
school office will allow a message to be passed on in an emergency (01384 818915).

COMMUNITY ASSOOCIATION
Our Home & School Association has achieved enjoyable and positive relations developed over
many years between Bramford Primary School and the community it serves, we hope this will
continue. We invite you to join us. All members are most welcome.
All parents are welcome, so please come along to our meetings, functions or events.
UNIFORM
Sweatshirts/polo t-shirts/ PE Kits etc can be purchased from the school office. Please obtain an
order form from the school office; a stock is kept in school. To these can be added grey or navy
blue trousers or skirts. Please ensure that your child wears sensible shoes suitable for playing.
PE KIT
Pupils are asked to bring in a PE kit for use in the hall and the playground/school field, in a named
P.E. bag with all contents clearly marked with their name. We would ask the children to bring a pair
of navy shorts/leotard/games skirt, White T-shirt and plimsolls. For all gym work children will be
expected to work bare footed, to comply with Local Authority Health and Safety recommendations.
PE Kit and Pump Bags are again available from the school office.
SWIMMING
When pupils go the baths, swimming costume, towel and for girls (and boys with long hair), a
swimming cap is necessary. NO JEWELLERY ON SWIMMING DAYS, PLEASE. At the time of
writing, a charge of £1.80 per session is necessary. Children in Year 3 currently have swimming
lessons, and are asked to bring their voluntary contribution on swimming days.

SCHOOL MEALS
Dinner money will be collected in the dining hall at dinnertime by Dudley Catering Services Staff.
The cost will be £1.85 per day.
Operating a cash collection service means:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
You pay daily or a week in advance for your child to have a hot meal.
The cost is still £1.85 per child per day, which they will pay to a cashier immediately before
choosing their meal.
If you wish to pay for your meals in advance on a Monday this should preferably be by cheque
made payable to DMBC £1.85 x the number of days you wish your child to stay.
The cashier will keep track of the meals taken during the week and any absentees will be
given a credit, which will be carried forward.
In the event of your child/children not having the appropriate money he/she will be given a
meal and a form will then be sent to you asking for payment.
The money should be sent in a purse/envelope with your child's name on it.
Any other money should be kept separate from dinner money e.g.: trips, swimming etc.
Free school meals remain unaffected by this service. The cashier will have a register of
children entitled to free school meals and will take their names when they choose their meal.
If you are in receipt of certain allowances, your child will be entitled to receive free school meals.
You should contact the Council House Dudley telephone 01381 818181) and ask application form,
or ask at the school office.
VALUABLES IN SCHOOL
In keeping with other Dudley schools, Bramford discourages its pupils from wearing jewellery.
Children should only wear one pair of stud earrings and a watch please.
Jewellery cannot be worn for P.E., Games, Dance or Swimming. When these subjects are
timetabled please make sure your child's jewellery stays at home. Please do not take your child to
have their ears pierced at the beginning of the school term as they are then unable to take part in
PE for six weeks. Mobile phones are not allowed in school or at school events such as discos.
Please make sure your child never leaves anything of value unattended in school. Valuable items
are best left at home.
Our job is much simpler if all articles of clothing are labelled.
SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Teaching/Organisation
When delivering the Curriculum, Bramford relies upon the special relationship between a child and
its teacher. As far as possible each child is taught as an individual, working mainly in small groups
within a class base.
The school is working as the National Curriculum requires with Key Stages 1 and 2 covering the
prescribed subjects. Further details of our policy on curriculum matters are available for inspection
at school.
Religious Education and Assembly
As with other Dudley schools, Bramford follows the "Agreed syllabus for Dudley Schools" for its R.E.
lessons. Again, parents wishing to see this can do so by contacting the school.
T:\Office\Write\2012.2013\Information for Parent Booklet\infobook2012.13.doc
8
Assemblies, by law, are held every day in school, and follow a broadly based Christian approach not
related to a specific denomination. A cross section of the local and national community come into
the school to take part in assemblies, so presenting to our pupils a range of faiths and backgrounds.
Under the 1944 and more recent legislation, parents are entitled to withdraw their children from
Assembly or R.E. lessons. Please contact the Headteacher, if this is the case.
Health Education
Our Governing Body has the responsibility for determining school policy on Health Education, in
particular sex education. As this forms part of the Health Education taught in schools, parents are
informed that specific sex education is introduced to our final year group. Any matters which arise
incidentally, in all year groups, are dealt with by the class teacher in a manner appropriate to the
age, aptitude and situation of the child at the time the query arises.
Extended School Services
Child Care
Bramford is an Extended School and we pleased to offer Registered Child Care on Site delivered by
fully experienced staff. Our Breakfast Club runs from 7.30am – 8.45am and our After School Club
runs from 3.00pm – 5.45pm. We also offer a Wrap Around Service for children aged 3 – 5 in
Nursery which is in addition to their free nursery entitlement. This is available from 7.30am –
5.45pm. All the above services run during term time only and do not operate on Inset Days. We do
operate Holiday Clubs for children aged 3 – 14yrs during most of the school holidays (not during the
Whitsun holidays). Booking for all clubs are essential. Please contact the school office for costs
and further information and also dates when the holiday clubs operate.
Family Learning/Study Support/Adult Learning/After School Activities
We operate a variety of Family Learning opportunities throughout the year for parents and pupils.
After schools sports clubs are offered throughout the school year delivered by our full time
community sports coach, for example football, netball, multi sports, tri golf, cricket etc. Other clubs
include gardening and choir.
Community Use of the Facilities
The Sports Hall, School Hall and other school rooms are available for hire by the community,
please contact Mrs S Meese on 01384 813579 for further information and prices. Currently we offer
Keep Fit, Karate, Dance , Football Training, Cheerleading and Zumba on certain evenings. The
local MP holds a surgery on the first Saturday of each month in the school Library.
Complaints
Again, following the 1986 Education Act, a complaints procedure formally allows parents to question
the delivery of the National Curriculum. Parents wishing to see this policy should contact the school.
Normally, any worries you have rarely become formal complaints, because the problems are easily
discussed and resolved with your child's class teacher. Should you wish to proceed further you can
ask to see the Headteacher, Mrs Williams, the Deputy Head, Ms Handley or make representation to
the Governing Body. DO COME IN TO SEE SOMEONE, HOWEVER SMALL YOUR WORRY
SEEMS. WE WILL HELP.

PARENTS CAN HELP
Moms and Dads often ask what they can do to help their children at home. The answer is to find
time for them, talk with them, ensure they have enough sleep, not too much television and are fit
and healthy. These factors will go a long way to ensure that all possible progress is made.
Should you wish to discuss any specific difficulty, please contact the Headteacher or the Admin
team by letter or telephone, e mail or call in to make an appointment.
Parents Evenings are held at regular intervals throughout the year. Additional meetings are also
organised to discuss special areas of the curriculum.
You can do a great deal to encourage your children by taking an active part in their reading, talking
and listening, and helping them solve problems. Specific advice on these matters will be given
through meetings and leaflets.
Many parents wish to give some practical help in school and regularly assist in classroom tasks e.g.
mounting work, hearing children read and working alongside small groups of pupils under a
teacher's direction.
Others help by working on tasks at home, e.g. lettering for displays and preparation of materials for
lessons.
Should you wish to help, please contact the School Office. You will be asked to complete a CRB
form and clearance will be needed before you will be allowed to work in school.

SCHOOL RULES
The only rules that exist at Bramford are those necessary to ensure the smooth, safe running of our
school. (See Appendix II.)
Thus, children are expected to be polite, well-mannered and co-operative at all times. Children
should move about the school with due regard for their own safety and that of others. Fighting is not
allowed. Children are not allowed in the school classrooms out of school hours unless permission is
given. Children staying for lunch are not allowed to leave the premises. Pupils going home for lunch
should return no earlier than the end of lunchtime session for the year group stated. Children
should co-operate with all teaching and non-teaching staff and comply with any instructions given.
We expect all parents to read and sign a Home School Agreement (see Appendix III), we also
expect them to discuss it with their children and encourage them to obey the rules.
Parents of children who disregard these rules or disobey staff who try to guide pupils in their care,
will be quickly contacted and asked to assist in correcting matters. Situations that are not
satisfactorily resolved between parents and school may lead to the involvement of external
agencies. This occurs very infrequently as the school is a friendly and happy community.
PASTORAL MATTERS
Before your child begins compulsory education, Bramford Foundation Unit is happy to receive you
and your child. Anyone wishing to know more about Early Years Education should contact Mrs
Moss on 01384 818918.
Welfare matters are dealt with by all staff on a day to day basis. However, more serious concerns
should be discussed with the Headteacher, Deputy Head, Assistant Head, Higher Level Teaching
Assistants, Mrs Stokes, Mrs Wilkes & Mrs Westwood.
Should your child fall ill or be injured at school, every effort will be made to contact you as quickly
as possible. Should you be unavailable, professional medical assistance will be sought on your
behalf unless you have informed us to the contrary. On occasions a member of staff may bring your
child home should you be unavailable to collect them.
Often your worries, queries or questions can be answered by the Admin team available to handle
your daily difficulties, including the administration of prescribed medication.
Mrs Baugh is our school crossing lady who safely assists pupils across Park Road. She is there
before school, at lunchtime and after school.
The parking of cars on or near the school crossing and within the staff car park causes additional
difficulties for Mrs Baugh Parents are respectfully requested to leave their vehicles at a safe
distance from the school. Please do not use the staff or visitors car park. The Chad Road Car
park gates will be closed before and after school starts and finishes.
SCHOOL FUND
Various fund raising events are held to boost school funds, and your continued support is
appreciated at any of these events.
Foundation & Year 1 ask for a termly voluntary contribution of £6.00 from Foundation parents and
£3.00 from Year 1 parents to assist with the replacement of certain regular items, e.g. play dough,
fruit etc.
T:\Office\Write\2012.2013\Information for Parent Booklet\infobook2012.13.doc
11
SECURITY, HEALTH & SAFETY
Parents, Governors and school staff have worked hard as a team to produce a security regime to
protect your children. The School doors are fitted with digital locks, the school gates are locked
during school hours, a visitor control system is in operation and various other matters relating to
your child's security have been successfully implemented.
Health and Safety issues receive equally high priority. The school's Staff Voice Committee meet
regularly and, should you have any items to bring to their attention, please do this via through the
Headteacher or the school's Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Mrs Chris Loach.
HEALTH INFORMATION
The aim of the School Health service is to promote the health and well-being of school children and
young people. The following items outline the Health Authority's policy on the medical screening
your child will receive whilst in their primary school.
Health matters
Any concerns you may have in this area are best discussed with the School Health Adviser at
Ladies Walk Clinic, tel. 01902 579566.
Dental screening
This will be carried out by a Dental Officer each year. No treatment or further inspections will be
offered without the signed consent of a parent or guardian.
In addition to the above screening programme, medical examinations, vaccinations and
immunisations in school will only be offered to children with written consent from parents or
guardians.
ILLNESS AT SCHOOL AND INJURIES
Children who are ill at school
Parents will be contacted as soon as possible if a child is too ill to remain at school. In the event
that parents are unavailable, the person given at the contact address will be asked to collect the
"patient". If a child has a head injury, however slight, we will make every attempt to notify you.
Hospital Treatment
Should your child require immediate hospital treatment, you will be contacted and your child taken to
hospital.
If it is possible to inform you of the need for such a visit and for you to transport them, again, this
message will be relayed to you.
IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT YOU RETURN THE CURRENT CONTACT FORM! THESE ARE
MOST NECESSARY AT ALL TIMES
T:\Office\Write\2012.2013\Information for Parent Booklet\infobook2012.13.doc
12
NOTIFICATION OF ABSENCE
When pupils are ill, a telephone call before 10.00am is required to explain their absence, if a call is
not received you will be sent a text message to enquire why your child is absent. Following their
return to school a note is also required. Visits to doctors or dentists require prior notification,
parents are requested to personally collect their child from school.
Similarly holiday forms are available from the school office for any vacation not taken in a normal
school holiday period.
At a recent meeting, governors discussed attendance and, in particular, the effect holidays taken in
term time are having on this.
Every year days are lost due to Family Holidays taken during term time. Clearly children missing this
much time from their education has a significant impact on their learning and the progress they
make. After discussions, governors decided that the Headteacher should only authorise holiday
requests for children whose attendance rate is running at 95% or higher. Headteachers can only
authorise a maximum of 10 days absence in any academic year in exceptional circumstances.
However, these will now only be authorised if the child’s attendance rate is running at 95%
or higher.
Children who are marked late after the register is closed will be classed as having an unauthorised
absence for that session. The school gates are closed at 8.55am any children who arrive after this
time should be brought to the main entrance to be signed in at the school office.
CONTACT ADDRESS FORMS
Each new child who joins Bramford is recorded via a contact address form, completed by their
parent or guardian. This gives essential information necessary for many routine tasks BUT IS
MOST VITAL IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
It is essential that these forms, which are completed annually, get back to school promptly. Should
any family details change e.g. address, parent's place of work or telephone number, we need to
know. It helps us to help you!
GROUP CALL
We subscribe to the Group Call system which means that we are able to contact parents via text
messages very quickly, e.g. to give praise, advise of times of returns of school visits, bad weather
details, reminders about events and letters, attendance enquiries etc. Please keep us up to date
with your mobile phone number.
STATEMENT ON CHARGING POLICY BY THE GOVERNING BODY
Parents are asked to make a voluntary contribution towards any school trips and visits.
Swimming lessons are subsidised by school but again a voluntary contribution is required.
Instrumental Music Tuition is provided via Dudley Performing Arts, Lawnswood Road, Wordsley,
Stourbridge, DY8 5PQ. Please call the school office to check availability in the instrument tuition
groups. Lessons are now organised by the school - please ask for further details and tuition fees.

APPENDIX II
SCHOOL RULES
Our School Rules are based upon points (1-7) as follows and at the beginning of each school
year. At the beginning of each school year the children and their new teacher discuss,
devise their own rules based on the following:Bramford Primary School expects everyone to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Be polite and respectful at all times.
Speak to others as I would like others to speak to me.
Always listen carefully.
Always walk when moving around school.
Consider the safety of myself and others in all my actions.
Always look after school property, property of other pupils and my own property.
As a school we reject:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Bullying
Cheating
Any form of deceit
Cruelty
Irresponsibility
Dishonesty
Bearing in mind that Bramford caters for children from 3 to 11 years and that such young children
rarely have the ability or experience to make their own decisions with no outside help, there needs
to exist a climate and support network that will help them. This network involves home and school
as equal partners and in signing the Home & School Agreement we give our commitment to this.
