Electricity is a general term encompassing a variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. Electricity is an extremely flexible form of energy, and has been adapted to a huge, and growing, number of uses. In general usage, the word "electricity" adequately refers to a number of physical effects. In scientific usage, however, the term is vague. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society. Electricity's extraordinary versatility as a source of energy means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is the backbone of modern industrial society, and is expected to remain so for the foreseeable future. In a loose but common use of the term, "electricity" may be used to mean "wired for electricity" which means a working connection to an electric power station. In same way Vidyut is an attempt to connect the outer world with the Electrical Department of RAJARAMBAPU INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. This is the first issue of the newsletter. Different members of the Electrical Department have contributed at their best to make this attempt a successful one. I would like to thank our HOD who coined the idea of having a newsletter of the department. In this issue we have covered all the events which have happened in the Electrical Department such as workshops, seminars etc. Any suggestions for the improvement will be welcome by a warm heart. This event has taken the shape of an excellent platform for budding technocrats to explore their hidden talent, innovativeness and express their commitment towards society and nation as well. The event was a grand success in terms of quality presented by no. students and innovative ideas displayed by participants through: ROBO RACE [dragster] CIRCUIT DESIGN [ritual circuit] MICROPROCESSOR & MICROCONTROLLER [tech micro] PHOTOGRAPHY [snap to u] MOVIE MAKING [filmgoer] DEBATE [rebellious] COUNTER STRIKE [struck on] This activity is held under the guidance of Prof. A.R. Thorat Vidyut-2011 We are proud that Kasegaon education society’s Rajarambapu Institute of Technology, Rajaramnagar has emerged as one of the renowned technical institute in western Maharashtra. Our institute is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur since1983. It is prestigious that our institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi & DTE Mumbai. Our institute offers 7 UG programs & 8 PG PROGRAMS. All these programs are accredited by NBA, New Delhi. Our institute is one among the selected institutes for World Bank project “TEQIP” & ISO 9001-2000 certified institute. To create platform for engineering students to show their technical competency our “ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT’S ASSOCIATION”- EESA has organized state level event “ENTHUSE 11” in technical and non-technical field. Workshop snaps Now a day’s research has become very important in teaching as it establishes link between theory & practice. As research & teaching are inter related it improves the teaching skills of faculty. Research means thinking systematically which improves the knowledge of the subject. Hence Electrical engineering department has organized one day work shop on “Research orientation for Electrical Engineering Faculty”. The workshop was divided into three different sessions as Lecture, Tutorial & Lab sessions on mat lab. In the first session participants got idea about how to choose research topic & how to convert your idea into research. We also got idea about different phases of research that means starting from Literature review. Dr. P.M Joshi gives his own example of how he converted his idea into research. Dr. P. M. Joshi, HOD of GCE, is lighting the pradip In second sessions Joshi sir told us small problems he faced in his research with help of example. Some simple problems in electrical engineering were also discussed. In Lab session one problem on how to find impedance & admittance of transmission line was discussed. Some problem was solved on Mat Lab. So from the workshop we got the idea about how to define the problem as it is very much important in research & convert that idea into research. This workshop was organized by Electrical engineering department under department R & D on 20th February 2011. The resource person was Dr. P.M Joshi, Head of Department GCE, Karad. Introduction Session Upcoming Event Of this month STTP is to be held on “Recent Trends in Electrical Engineering” in the Electrical Engineering Dept. The dates for the program are from 2nd to 6th May 2011. Those who are interested can contact to Prof. P. S. Bidkar. Mb. 9404991119 Vidyut-2011 STYGIAN2011-Letsenlightenit………………………. AboutExcellence……………….. “The secret of joy in working is contained in word -excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it” – Pearl S.buck AdvancesinElectricalEngineering As technology is advancing need of the precise control of induction motor is increasing demand in the industry. For that purpose the real time control of the induction motor is needed. It has seen that the current methods cannot give the solutions for the real time application. Thus we require the high speed processors, for that purpose we go for the use of Digital Signal Processor. It has capability of high speed computation. In the 21st century the power electronics has increasing demand for power convertors such as ac/dc to dc/ac convertors so it is very important to get aware of the new trends in the power electronics devices. Now a day’s high speed application requirement is increasing demand, thus manufacturers are trying to get high frequency devices with high power ratings. Thus everyone must have the knowledge about the minimizing the losses and increasing the durability the semiconductor devices. Now a day’s in control system design we are going for the fuzzy logic and the neural network controllers. For the fuzzy logic control we must have the large data base. Also we are going for the PID control, MRAS and many other systems. Our ultimate aim is to get precise control of the system. There is always demand for the energy. In India we are having twelve month sunlight available. So, there is a huge scope in renewable energy like solar power, wind power or we can go for hybrid power plant.
