It involves the idea that we have lived before, possibly many times, and we may live again. The soul is eternal and lives in many different bodies. • As a person cast off worn garments and puts on others that are new, even so the embodied soul cast off worn out bodies and puts on others that are new. Bhagavad Gita 2, 13 Moksha Chitram! The game of snakes and ladders is derived from the Indian game Moksha Chitram. How might this game be connected to the concept of karma? Tasks • More people are alive now than ever. Where have the new souls come from? Are they the souls of former animals or plants? What do you think? • Simply put, we now have four views regarding what happens after we die: – Reincarnation – Rebirth – Eventual Resurrection – Nothing Which is your personal view and why? Take a moment to reflect and then write a written response. Exam practice • ‘Reincarnation is a more coherent concept than resurrection.’ Discuss • This question asks whether these concepts are coherent; in other words, you are being asked if they make sense or not. You might think that neither concept makes sense, because both involve the idea of bodily life after death; if you reject this as a coherent concept, you are not going to accept either reincarnation or resurrection. You might, however, prefer one over the other. In your essay, you should explain the different concept and give reasons why people might believe they are true. Remember, you are presenting an argument, so information should be used to support it rather than for its own sake.
