Write how each nutrient below helps the body.
Fat: keeps us warm and gives us some energy
Saturated: solid at room temperature and causes heart disease
Unsaturated: liquid and is okay for us to eat
Carbohydrates: give energy
Proteins: growth and repair of our body
Vitamins: fight infection
Minerals: keep bones and muscles strong
Water: moves waste through our body and cools us off
Draw the Plate below and write how much you need for each food group and three foods that
belong to each category.
Fruits: 1 1 /2 cups
Grains: 5 ozs. Girls 6 ozs. Boys
Vegetables: 2 cups girls 2 1 /2 cups boys
Dairy: 3 cups
Protein: 5 ozs.
What are three facts you learned about Food Labels?
Check serving size first, limit sodium, cholesterol and fat
Calories from fat is half or more than total calories, then it is fattening
Explain the 5/20 rule. 5% or more is low: want this with high fattening ingredients
20% or more is high: want this with vitamins and minerals
What is the difference between anaerobic and aerobic exercise?
Aerobic is heart healthy: non-strop for at least 20 min. (running, swimming, biking, walking,
etc.)
Anaerobic builds muscle: short burst of energy (lifting weights or playing baseball)
