Aims:

Introduce the key knowledge and key skills regarding the concept of Longitude and Latitude.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Students collect geographical information from electronic and print media, including satellite images and atlas maps and analyse, evaluate and present it using a range of forms. They construct overlay theme maps using map conventions of scale, legend, title, and north point. (Humanities Geospatial

Introduction to Lesson

Description

Introduce the lesson and objectives.

Role Marking and any other agenda items as needed.

Begin lesson by handing out the polystyrene balls to students. Revise with them regarding what is a longitude and what is latitude.

To further explore the concept of Longitude and

Latitude students will read page xxii of their Atlas.

Students will download from the VLE the world map worksheet and mark the major lines including the Latitude readings and the Longitude readings. They will then finish the rest of the worksheet labelling various coordinates.

Conclusion Reflect back to the lesson asking students to highlight the significance of longitude and latitudes. Reflect on how to write down specific coordinates using longitude and latitude e.g. 130

Students will complete the worksheet from the VLE and submit to teacher.
