John Tory
Mayor of Toronto
Toronto City Hall
100 Queen Street West
Toronto, Ontario
M5H 2N2
Dear Mr. John Tory,
Since you have been elected as the new mayor of Toronto as of 2014, I am writing this
letter to share to you what I think is a youth concern of Toronto and how it can affect us and
many other people. I think that a major concern to youths in Toronto is transit, specifically the
TTC. Many Secondary (High School) students take the TTC every day in their in their morning
routine and on their way home. Many buses take a reasonable amount of time to reach your
destination but most of the time, buses take a long time to reach your destination either because
of traffic problems, construction or Rush Hour. When the bus finally comes, usually 2 or 3 buses
would show up at the same time all at once which doesn’t make sense since the system follows
a schedule. Once the buses finally come, you would usually be happy because the wait is finally
over, but it’s a different story. Whenever you see a bus coming and when it finally reaches you,
it’s always full with people and most of the time there is space in the back for people to move
but it seems that people don’t understand what “Move to the back of the bus” means no matter
how many times you tell them to move back. Specifically on Keele Street where many people
use the bus to get to work or school.
Keele Street has many work places and 2 high schools (York Memorial Collegiate
Institute and George Harvey Collegiate Institute) where a lot of kids come from to use the bus
and adults who come out from work. It affects many people on their way to school (varies on
being early or late) and coming home. A way that I think that we can help solve that problem is
to cut backon construction work from places that don’t really need it to reduce traffic congestion
and lane reduction and bring out the Long-Stretch buses like the ones that run on Dufferin
Street and bring them to Keele Street. It may look like it would cause traffic congestion because
they would take up more space on the roads but looking at it in general, it would help out more
people. It would help carry more people because it has more space than the regular buses and
help keep bus stops empty or at a reasonable amount of people who wait for the next bus.
I hope you take my opinion into consideration and try to solve the TTC problem to help
us in the future. I hope you’ll do a good job of keeping the city on track and a place where
people would enjoy staying and living.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
Bradley Singh
