Simmons HSA Meeting Minutes
November 21, 2014
Opening comments: Carolyn Kushner welcomed all to the meeting. Door prizes this month are a Mixed Bag Tote
and a $5 credit to Holiday Shop.
Secretary Minutes: Minutes from the last meeting (September 17) were reviewed. A motion was made to
approve by Christy Lorenzo and seconded by Renee Rideout. Motion approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Juliann Giovanniello provided a high level review of the income and expense highlights from
the period September through October 2014. Current finances were reviewed. The major sources of income for
the period were the 5K, Target take charge of Education, Membership Dues and Spirit Events. A few expenses for
the period included the classroom start-up gifts, the Fifth grade gift, and magazine subscriptions. A motion was
made to approve the current finance report by Diana Starr and seconded by Renee Rideout. Motion carried.
Principal’s Report: Dr. Amy Orlando, Assistant Principal. Dr. Orlando spoke about the upcoming student teacher
conferences. She provided guidance and answered questions regarding the new online reporting system for the
student report cards.
Old Business:
Spirit Events – Juliann Giovanniello reported that the spirit events at McDonald’s and Kohler Farms were well
attended even with the weather challenges for Kohler Farms. A big thank you to McDonald’s and Kohler Farms
for their support.
Fall Apparel Sale – Renee Rideout reported that the orders have been received and will be distributed this Friday.
The amount of orders was small.
Ice Cream Social – Shelby Pagano reported that the Ice cream social was a success and enjoyed by many.
Kindergarten Activities – Shelby Pagano reported that the Kindergarten Fall Social had a large turnout and went
really well. The kids and parents had a ton of fun.
Book Fair – The book fair ran very smoothly. A great big thank you to Anna Dalson for doing such a great job.
5K – Carolyn Kushner reported that the 5k went well. Moving the event inside to the gym made the event much
more enjoyable for attendees. Sponsorships were lower than expected but there was a good attendance that we
hope to be close to budget.
Mixed Bag – Juliann Giovanniello reported that Mixed Bag was a big success again. Rough numbers were $7000
in sales which translates to $3500 in profit for the HSA.
New Business:
Thanksgiving Baskets – Mary Marvin/Julie Kwok, co-chairs. Emails have gone out to classes for donations and
details regarding collections.
Hospitality - Randi Copman/Meredith Tomasulo, co-chairs. The teacher’s conference dinner will be catered by
Moe’s. Look for a signup genius for additional items needed to support our great teachers.
Holiday Shop – Megan Rezza/Casey Donahue, co-chairs. Holiday shop is coming soon – week of December 1, the
Monday after Thanksgiving break. Coloring contest sheets due this Friday.
5th Grade Committee – Teresa Nolin, chair. Dec 5th will be the 5th Grade movie night. Treats will be sold at
intermission. The money raised will be put toward the 5th grade give back gift.
Spirit Events – Juliann Giovanniello, chair. Barnes and Noble Night is the next spirit event – Dec 10th at
Montgomeryville Barnes and Noble. We will be raffling off a Nook again this year. Teachers will be reading to the
children.
Family Dance – Karin Davis, chair. More info to follow. Save the date – Friday, January 30th.
Discovery Time – Shelby Pagano, chair. Currently getting teachers and programs together. There will be a change
to registration – if you volunteer your time during Discovery Time, you can pre-register for one class. The
committee is looking for one more chairperson to support.
Talent Shows - Shelby Pagano, chair. There will be three separate talent shows this year. 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th,
and 5th. There will be a planning meeting this Friday. Signed permission slips will be required for your child to
participate in the show. If you are interested in helping, please contact Shelby Pagano.
Incentives - Diana Starr, chair. We have approximately 320 enrollments for the Giant A+ program. The last
boxtop collection brought us $1262. Thank you to everyone who supported us through boxtops!
Other Business:
1. HSA Meeting Dates for 2014-2015 – January 21, March 18, May 20.
Door Prizes Drawn: Renee Rideout – Mixed Bag Tote; Holly Duarte - $5 coupon for Holiday Shop
Diana Starr made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Renee Rideout seconded. Motion approved. With no further
business Carolyn Kushner adjourned the meeting.
