ENC 4212: Professional & Technical Editing ASSIGNMENT 1 (20% of grade) - Due Sep 7, 2015, 6 p.m. Fall 2015 / USF Sarasota-Manatee • Instructor: T. E. Roberts (Instructions revised and re-posted 25 Aug 2015) Topic of Assignment: Editing for Content and Clarity DIRECTIONS. You are working as a salaried, full-time editor for a social services agency. An executive has provided you a draft of his writing that you need to convert into clear, concise English which a funder can understand. This document, known as a one-page “Letter of Intent,” will be submitted to a U.S. government agency as part of a $1.5 million proposal to deliver mental health services for the agency’s clients. You need to ask questions and perform research to clarify any words, phrases, or concepts that are unclear to you. Your main task is to revise language and awkward sentence structure that block meaning and replace them with smooth-flowing, lucid prose that meets the reader’s needs. Its length may not exceed 300 words. (The funder will automatically reject anything longer.) To get started, open a blank MS Word document and then copy and paste the two-column table beginning on page two below as a simple template for your work. Save the new document as Lastname_4212_1.docx. Then add your changes and remember to save the document as you do your work (you can also set MS Word preferences to save your work automatically at user-set intervals). This format will allow me to compare the original and your edited results at a glance. As you will see, the current original is now more than twice as long as what the funding agency will accept, so one of your key tasks will be to shorten the existing document. You will also need to make it as concise as possible. Note that “concise” is not a synonym for “brief.” “Concise” means packing the maximum meaning into minimum length as measured by word count. “Brief” means merely “short.” List all sources consulted at the end of the document in conventional MLA format (see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ for guidance). SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS. The submission is due via Canvas on Mon, Sept. 7, 2015, 6 p.m. with audio codes for the Week 1 and 2 lectures. Name your file Lastname_1_4212.docx if you want just a grade posted on Canvas. If you want a detailed markup and are willing to send me a thorough revision within one week after the submission is graded and returned, label it Lastname_1_4212_markup.docx. (The revision does not result in any change of grade unless you submit it late, and then it results in a penalty to the grade. See syllabus for details.) All your work must be your own. It is subject to being shared with all students in the class. If you have a question as you work on this assignment, please contact me by email (tr@sar.usf.edu). Note, however, that I do not have time to review a student’s draft before submission, nor will you find that most clients or employers allow such a review. Do it right the first time! ABC AGENCY - LETTER OF INTENT Proposal for Delivering Case Management Services ORIGINAL TEXT (434 words) ABC AGENCY intends to implement a Wraparound System of care, shown to be highly effective in promoting excellence in service delivery while promoting positive system of care changes for populations served, through provision of high quality coordinated case management support services maximizing organizational and natural (formal and informal) supports for participants of the POWER Program. A nationally acclaimed consultant for the Wraparound process will provide training and guidance through collaborative efforts related to other ABC AGENCY projects. In the event ABC AGENCY shares case management responsibilities with other POWER partners, ABC AGENCY will invite partners to Wraparound trainings provided by the national consultant. The Wraparound process will be driven by the following ten key principles: Participant and Family Voice and Choice; Natural Supports; Individualized Service; Strengths Based; Persistence; Cultural Competency; Team Based; Collaboration and Mutual Commitment to Team Goals; Community Based; and Outcome Based. The training and implementation of the Wraparound process for POWER participants will be a novel approach to helping POWER participants and their support system to reach their life goals. ABC AGENCY desires to expand the model for case management services previously provided to help ensure participants are more fully engaged, supported and positively transitioned during their recovery journey resulting in not only sobriety but the realization of their personal and family goals resulting in the highest possible quality of life throughout the challenging process of recovery. The end result of the process will be the participant’s integration in to the Recovery Community that will sustain the person without services and supports from the POWER Program. ABC AGENCY believes given the complexity of the cooccurring nature of the people referred to the POWER program a combination of Master level trained and Bachelor level social workers are required to deliver required counseling and case management services for the people served and their formal and informal support system. Two Master level trained social workers will be employed to provide co-occurring counseling services and wraparound case management services if the initial assessment indicates an integration of counseling and wraparound case management services are required and the participant wishes to engage in both counseling and wraparound services. These individuals will be provided counseling and case management supports in accordance with the State of Florida Outpatient Substance Abuse Counseling guidelines, assessed Mental Health Counseling requirements and EDITED TEXT (not to exceed 300 words) Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wraparound case management guidelines.
