A powerful and compelling drama, this play is a kaleidoscopic depiction of a young boy from the moment of his birth in a charity hospital to his death by drug overdose. THE DIVINERS SCHOOL: Harris County High School Synopsis: The story centers around a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s. The preacher, set on breaking away from a long line of preachers from Kentucky, is determined not to do what is so deeply rooted within him. The women of the town try to persuade him to preach while he tries to persuade the young man to wash. THE DROWSY CHAPERONE SCHOOL: Warner Robins High School Synopsis: The story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan. As he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit “The Drowsy Chaperone”, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. It is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. THE ELEPHANT MAN SCHOOL: Forsyth Central High School Synopsis: The script is based on the life of John Merrick, a man so physically deformed that he became known as the “Elephant Man.” With very few options open to him, Merrick is forced to display himself to the public in traveling sideshows. Due to the kindness of one Dr. Frederick Treves, Merrick is admitted into the London Hospital for care and observation. Dr. Treves becomes determined to help Merrick lead a normal life, and Merrick soon becomes the toast of society. In the end however, Merrick finds that normality isn’t something he can achieve, or that he even necessarily wants. THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE SCHOOL: Whitefield Academy Synopsis: Set in the early 1920s during the days of flappers, speakeasy joints and Prohibition, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is the comedic tale of a young woman who moves to New York City to pursue her dreams of adventure and love. WIT SCHOOL: Chestatee High School Synopsis: Dr. Vivian Bearing, a professor of 17th Century poetry, is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. A once demanding professor who treated her students as a commodity, Dr. Bearing starts to regret her actions as her doctors approach her treatment in the same vain.
