WELCOME TO STORYTIME!
TODAY’S THEME: SCARECROW FUN
SIX STEPS TO GETTING YOUR CHILD READY TO READ
#2: Observe words and symbols around you, and point them out to your child. Signs for
restaurants and stores are a great way to show the importance of words, and how they have a
direct meaning in our lives. This develops print awareness.

“Five Little Scarecrows”
“Let’s Build a Scarecrow”
Five little scarecrows standing in a row,
The first one said, “Look, here come the crows!”
The second one said, “I am very small.”
The third one said, “But, I am very tall.”
The fourth one said, “I can bend my head.”
The fifth one said, “I can wave my arms, instead.”
Five little scarecrows standing in a row,
Count them all as they move when the wind blows.
First the body,
Then the head,
A big straw hat,
And a scarf of red.
Buttons for eyes,
A carrot nose,
A mouth made of stitches,
In two smiling rows.
FINGERPLAYS, RHYMES & SONGS
“Five Little Friends”
Five little friends one October night,
Made a very, very spooky sight.
The first one danced on his tippy-tip-toes.
The next one tumbled and bumped his nose.
The next one jumped high in the air.
The next one walked like a fuzzy bear
The next one sang a spooky song.
Five little friends played the whole night long!
“The More We Boo Together” (Tune: “The
More We Get Together”)
“ Little Jack-O-Lantern”
(Tune: “Frere Jacques”)
The more we boo together,
together, together,
The more we boo together the scarier we’ll be.
‘Cause my boo plus your boo will make goblins
boo-hoo.
The more we boo together the scarier we’ll be.
Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern
Burn so bright, burn so bright.
You are burning brightly,
You are burning brightly,
Through the night, through the night.
“Scarecrow Stomp”
“Shoo!”(Tune: “Shoo Fly”)
If you want to be a scarecrow, now here’s your
chance,
‘Cause everyone’s doing scarecrow dance.
You flap your arms all around,
Stretch ‘em up, stretch ‘em up,
Then put them on the ground,
’Cause you’re doing the scarecrow stomp,
That’s right, you’re doing the scarecrow stomp.
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me!
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me!
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me,
This field of corn is mine, you see.
I am, I am, I am,
I am a big scarecrow.
I am, I am, I am,
I am a big scarecrow.
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me!
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me!
Shoo, crows, don’t bother me,
This field of corn is mine, you see.
Shoo crow, shoo crow, shoo crow, shoo
Shoo crow, shoo crow, shoo crow, S-H-O-O-O!
