PLATO
(428–427 BC c. 348–347 BC
Athens)
Plato was
a Classical Greek philosopher
mathematician, student of
Socrates, writer of
philosophical dialogues, and
founder of
the Academy in Athens, the
first institution of higher
learning in the Western
world.
PLATO’S PHILOSOPHY
For Plato this type of love is something spontaneous that inspires the
mind and soul. He considered love as something very positive that has
the function of purifying the soul.
In Sidney's sonnet Stella is something far and unattainable.
Astrophel knows this aspect, but he cannot live without her and he is
unable to give up his love. Stella is the most brilliant star and
Astrophel cannot survive without her light.
This type of love is also present in Romeo and Juliet. It is evident in
the declaration of love done by Romeo who describes his beloved
with positive images, like the light and the sun.

Your love is a lie
Someone like you
So don't try to say you're sorry
Or try to make it right
And don't waste your breath
Because it's too late, it's too late
Never mind, I'll find someone like
you,
I wish nothing but the best for you,
too,
Don't forget me, I beg,
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,"
Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,
yeah,
You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes
And pretend all you want
But I know
I know your love is just a lie, lie
It's nothing but a lie, lie
You're nothing but a lie
