The Art of Touching
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork and means
“finger pressure“.
Like acupuncture, shiatsu is based on the holistic system of Traditional Chinese
Medicine , where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy. It involves using thumbs, palms, elbows and knees to apply light pressure in a continuous rhythmic sequence over the entire body. It also includes stretching and rotations.
Shiatsu is performed lying on a comfortable futon on the floor or alternatively in a sitting position. Clients are fully clothed, preferably wearing loose comfortable clothing.
Shiatsu supports the body’s natural selfhealing powers . It enhances quality of life by stimulating physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and vitality.
Shiatsu is suitable for all ages and is effective in the relief of a variety of ailments including:
any form of stress and tension
headaches
insomnia
indigestion
menstrual pain
respiratory problems
Many pregnant women and those experiencing fertility issues or going through menopause have benefited from
Shiatsu.
Please note: Shiatsu is not recommended for those suffering from febrile syndrome, inflammation, varicose veins/phlebitis, osteoporosis or cancer.
