Mathematics III Extra Credit Project You will have the opportunity to earn extra credit points. You will need to complete one of the following tasks to demonstrate mastery of the content you learned in Unit 5 (Conics). Conics Portfolio Conics Electronic Posterboard (Glogster) Conics Video (Animoto) Conics Portfolio You will put together a portfolio of the 2 different conics sections (parabola &circle). This portfolio should exhibit your understanding of conic sections and graphing conic sections. All graphs should be drawn on graph paper. The portfolio should include the following: Cover (Title) Page Table of Contents Parabolas o Definition (Geometric) o 2 Circles o Definition (Geometric) o For the following equation: 3x 30 x y 71 0 Rewrite the equation in standard form State the direction it opens (up, down, right, or left) State the vertex State the focus State the directrix Graph the parabola (on graph paper) For the following equation: x y 6 x 10 y 2 0 Rewrite the equation in standard form State the center State the radius Graph the circle (on graph paper) 2 2 Description of how to distinguish the equations of the conic sections from each other. Conics Electronic Posterboard You will need to use the www.glogster.com to create an electronic posterboard. The posterboard will include definitions and examples of the 2 different conic sections (parabola & circle). This posterboard should exhibit your understanding of conic sections and their representations in the real world. Email the link to Mrs. Overstreet (koverstreet@rockdale.k12.ga.us) The posterboard should include the following: Definitions (geometric) of each conic section An example of each conic section in standard form A visual (picture) of each conic section on a coordinate plane At least three real world examples (pictures) of each conic section Creativity!!!! Conics Video You will need to use the www.animoto.com to create a short video. The video will include definitions and examples of the 2 different conic sections (parabola & circle). This video should exhibit your understanding of conic sections and their representations in the real world. Email the link to Mrs. Overstreet (koverstreet@rockdale.k12.ga.us) The video should include the following: Definitions (geometric) of each conic section An example of each conic section in standard form A visual (picture) of each conic section on a coordinate plane At least three real world examples (pictures) of each conic section Creativity!!!! Due Date: April 8th @ 3:00pm (NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!)
