 “-ism” means practice or belief in
 During the Industrial Revolution 7 prominent
ideologies (-isms) developed:

Capitalism
Utilitarianism
Steps

 You are each assigned one ideology
 Use your graphic organizer to store your information
about your ideology
 I have given you a resource sheet for each ideology, use
those terms & people as your starting point
 Fill out each box of your graphic organizer with enough
info. to show your understanding of the “-ism”
 Use the textbook as a starting place but you will also use
the references provided
 (If you want to use another website not provided for
research clear it with me first)
Final Product

 You will be matched up with others who share your
“-ism”/ideology
 Together you will create a poster version of a
Facebook page for your ideology (see template
handout)
 On Monday we will have a gallery walk to share
ideologies and “comment” on them.
 Your entrance ticket to participate in your group
project is a completed graphic organizer
Step One

 Use your reference guide to find a definition of your
“-ism” in the textbook
 Define the other textbook terms & people
 Once you have this information checked off by me you
will get a laptop and begin researching online.
 Visit the websites provided & take notes on the
information





 First ½ of class you will finish your independent
research
 The second ½ of class you will meet with your group.

 Each group will receive a cardboard poster covered
with white paper
 You MUST bring all printed out images, and
information to class tomorrow so that you can
assemble your Facebook page
 You will have 20 min. to do this with your group
before the gallery walk

 You will view each Ideology Facebook page before leaving any
comments
 You will then choose 4 pages (Ideologies) you want to comment
on
 Your comments must engage with the Ideology by doing at least
one of these things:
 Comparing or contrasting your Ideology with the one you are
viewing and explaining your choice
 Make a connection to yourself-personal beliefs
 Make a connection to the world – how do you see this ideology in
the world now?
 Make a connection to something we have already learned in class
 Post your comment on the wall before moving on
Presentation

 One member of your group will present the
definition of your -ism
 One member will present an image, picture or,
symbol for your -ism
 One member will present a scenario or example for
your -ism
 Fill out your graphic organizer for all ideologies –
this is a tool for you to help keep them straight!
