Outcomes Assessed:

Task: Viking Gods and Religion: Trading Card Task
Instructions:

Working in your groups you are to create a collection of trading cards on the gods of the Vikings

To do this successfully, you will need to make collect source information on the gods

Start by creating a Titanpad (www.titanpad.com) that collects primary source information on the gods. As you research and
find information, add it to your Titanpad so that the entire group can access all of your information at any time.

The Gods that you are to look at are:

1. Odin
5. Baldur
9. Vali
2. Thor
6. Freyr
10. Heimdall
3. Loki
7. Freyja
11. Bragi
4. Balder
8. Sif
12. Midgard Serpent and Fenris Wolf
For each of these gods/ goddesses or mystical creatures, you need to create a trading card that shows the following:
1. The part of Viking life that they were tied to (eg fertility)
2. Weapons, skills or powers that the god/ goddess is said to possess
3. At least one well known story of the god/ goddess
4. What happens to them at Ragnarok.
5. A description of what they look like.
6. An image- either created by you or found, but they must be a good representation of the god/ goddess.
7. Each card must have a quote from an ancient/ Viking source and a modern source

You will be marked on how well you

Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the gods/ goddesses and mystical creatures of Viking culture.

Demonstrate quality and thoroughness in their research process, evident in a correctly formatted bibliography

Your creativity in HOW you design the trading cards will also be marked, as well as how you present the information. The
cards should be no larger than A5 and should have information on both sides.

Demonstrate a consistent format/ theme which your group will decide on. All of your information/ sources designs must be
shared by the entire group.

Marking Scheme:
Student will be marked on how well they:

Locate and select source information on Viking religion

Interpret meaning, purpose and context of source information

Communicate information in a creative and effective manner

Work together as a group to complete the task

Correctly use historical terms and information to communicate their knowledge.

they have been asked to study.

Students cover all of the seven points of the task and have included information from a Viking source and a

Student provides a properly formatted bibliography which demonstrates a range of source material

Students locate and analyse source information and incorporate the information into their task.

Students demonstrate a correct knowledge of the gods, goddesses and mystical creatures they have been
asked to study. Work includes some detail.

Students cover all of the seven points of the task and have attempted to include information from a Viking
source and a modern source.
