FUNGI
Fungi are groups of unicellular or multicellular
spore-producing organisms feeding on organic
matter.
Examples:
Unicellular (one cell) many cause disease
Yeast
Mold
Mildew
Multicellular (many cells) do not cause disease
Mushrooms
Shelf Fungi
FUNGI STRUCTURE
Fungi are:
Unicellular (one cell) or Multicellular (many
cells)
Eukaryotic (cells have a nucleus and organelles
surrounded by membranes)
Non-photosynthetic (cannot turn light energy
into food)
Heterotrophs (cannot make its own food)
FUNGI REPRODUCTION
Fungi Reproduce:
sexually (offspring spawn from different genetic
information)
In unfavorable conditions ensures genetic
shuffle to increase likelihood of better adapted
offspring
Asexually (offspring spawn from one individual
genetic information)
Producing Spores
In favorable conditions ensures the spread of a
species
FUNGI TRANSMISSION
Fungi are transmitted through:
Spores can be released into the air and into you lungs
when you breathe.
Direct contact with an infected person or object can
spread the fungus to the skin
Eating
Fungi can cause:
Allergic reactions
Difficulty Breathing
Skin infections
Bone, lungs, and heart infections
FUNGI PREVENTION
Spores can be released into the air and into
your lungs when you breathe.
Direct contact with an infected person or
object can spread the fungus to the skin
Eating
Fungi can cause:
Allergic reactions
Difficulty Breathing
Skin infections
Bone, lungs, and heart infections
FUNGI TREATMENT
Fungi can be treated through:
Ointments
Medicine
Shots
Mold clean up

PARASITES
Parasites are organisms that live and feed on
another organism (aka..Host).
Examples:
Tapeworm
Hookworm
Heart worm
Malaria
When parasites use their host for
nourishment, they can sicken and weaken
the host. (most of the time they do not kill
the host)
PARASITES TRANSMISSION
Eating or drinking infected food/water
Direct contact with the parasite
PARASITES TREATMENT
Prevented by:
Avoiding contaminated food or water
Murky unsterilized water
Raw or rotten food
Avoiding swimming in lakes or rivers with
know parasites.
Wearing bug spray
Treated with:
Medicines
