Community Center Mission Statement
The La Calle Real Center for Economic Development is a
catalyst for local economic development. It will act as
gathering place for hard working people to fulfill their
potential .The Center will empower students and adults in the
local area with the infrastructure and tools to succeed
economically When success is attained, the local economy
will improve, as well as the quality of life for many people in
this impoverished area. We believe this area's youth are the
future. Through education and practical experience,
entrepreneurial leadership, and youth programs, the Center

potential as the area's next generation of agricultural,
business, tourism, and entrepreneurial leaders.

Recent News:
UCD Student Volunteers Participate in LCR
Agricultural Project in August/September 2013
In August and September of 2013 we had the good
fortune of having Elizabeth Blum and Clifford
Williams (students at UC Davis) coordinate an
agricultural project in the impoverished village of La
Calle Real, Nicaragua. The project consisted of
sl and implementing experimental gardens
planning
and fruit trees. The project included organizing
and educating secondary students in various
agronomic techniques.
The LCR community has very poor soil conditions,
very few resources, and lacks tools needed for a
project of this type. With these limited resources
they were able set up an irrigation system, prepare
soil with local materials, and seed a garden, that
months later demonstrated a good yield.
It was a difficult assignment that required creativity
and resourcefulness in a third world environment.
Hopefully this work they started can continue
beyond the secondary school to the local
community. Other volunteers that helped kick off
the above activities were Dave Sargent and Jose
Rodriquez.
Other August 2013 Activities:
Delivered school supplies needed to complete the
school year.
Student Tour Guide training in Leon.
Delivered more hygiene kits/water filters.
Delivered stove/oven to high school.
Brought LCR baseball team to Managua to play USA
team (Baseball w/o Borders).
I believe in the evolution of the mind, the
heart, and the soul. I believe in improvement. I
believe in growth. There is nothing quite as
invigorating as being able to evaluate and
then solve a difficult problem, to grapple with
something that seems almost unsolvable and
then find a resolution-Gordon B. Hinckley
January 2014 Planning Trip
-Met with LCR community council
-Started bakery training
-Surveyed land for community center
-Researched and tested water filters
We Have Water at the High School!
Thanks to our March 2013 volunteer
group and Dave & Joan Lewis we now have
a well producing water at the school.
The LCR community Council and WCRF have
decided on a plan to identify and acquire land for
the future community commerce center. The facility
will be used for education, training, and sales of local
products and services.
Fund Raising Needs. Please Help!
We need your financial support to build the La
Calle Real Community Center to help build a
sustainable economy in this impoverished area.
We are asking each family to donate whatever
they can. We hope to break ground for this
project in late June. Any family that donates $100
will have their family name
engraved on a brick in the façade of the Center.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 to build the Center.
WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS TO REACH
OUR GOAL!
