When should you look at the class blog? What are two things to pay attention to when taking notes on a prompt’s resources (videos, articles, etc.)? Sage Revisions – Length The computer LOVES length. An absurd, irrational amount of length. 5 paragraphs, especially the typical 3-5 sentence paragraphs, is not enough. I wrote 5 paragraphs on the biofuels prompt and got an 18. I added three more paragraphs and my score went up to 25. ** I would stick to a 5 paragraph essay, but make your paragraphs long. Like 10+ sentences long** Sage Revisions - Transition Words The computer loves paragraphs that begin First, Second, Third, and In Conclusion. This got me another 2 points, just by adding these words in the beginning of each paragraph. It also loves phrases like "Most importantly" or "If . . . then" and all other basic transitions: before, however, furthermore, now, etc. Sentence Variety Include different sentence structures as much as possible: simple, compound, complex, and compound complex. I'd throw in a few imperative and interrogative sentences just to be safe. If I remember correctly the AP board likes these too, and it's just nicer to read an essay with varied sentences. Examples and Personal Experiences Including a personal experience boosted my score from 29 to 30 Spelling and Grammar still count Clear Introduction and Conclusion Take a clear side on your argumentative essay.
