Guidelines for Fieldwork-related Courses
Those students who wish to register for Fieldwork-related Courses must read this information
carefully.
A.
Course Category, Credits, and Registration
1. Course Category: Program Course
2. Name of the Courses Considered as Fieldwork-related Courses
i) Fieldwork A/B/C/D
(These subjects are for those who take fieldwork activities.)
ii) Internship A/B
(These subjects are for those who take internship activities.)
iii) Global Partners Networking
(Global Governance and Regional Strategy (GR) Program Certificate requirement)
[Any fieldwork research activities based in GR-affiliated universities, research
organizations, or autonomous organizations inside or outside Japan]
iv) Practical Research Work for Global Issues
(GR Program Certificate requirement)
[Any research activity involving fieldwork on a global-political topic, based on a
self-explanatory political implication or hypothesis]
3. Credit Earned: 2 credits
4. Registration Permitted: a maximum of 2 courses per semester
B.
Definition and Conditions of Fieldwork-related Courses
1. Fieldwork Research: Local investigation and/or research within or outside Japan
Internship: Working in an organization or company within or outside Japan
Both Fieldwork Research and Internship activities must be related to specific research
theme/s chosen by the students.
2. When research activity involves several members, the task of each member must be
clearly defined and should be carried out separately.
3. Students must select a faculty member as an Advisor for their Fieldwork-related Courses
(hereinafter referred to as “Advisor”). The Advisor must be a specialist in the themes
chosen by the students. Students are expected to receive advice from their Advisors for
the duration of three hours or more before they can begin their research activities.
4. The actual research duration of each Fieldwork Research should be approximately
forty-five hours or more. The actual duration of Internship should be approximately
seventy hours or more; it can also be ten days or more.
5. In principle, an Internship is conducted in an organization or company that has been
recommended by a faculty member of Keio University SFC. This assessment should be
based on long-term trust and verbal agreement between the functionaries of the
organization/company and the faculty members of Keio University SFC. Students are
free to find companies or organizations for Internship provided their Advisors approve of
the trustworthiness of such companies or organizations. Without the prior approval of
the Advisors students will not be permitted to join as interns.
6. Those students who have already submitted the required documents, and have completed
the research activity during the school break, are entitled to register for Fieldwork-related
Courses during the following semester.

D.
Required Documents, Place and Period of Submission
1. Required Documents for Fieldwork Research/Internship
[Fieldwork Research]
Plan for Fieldwork Research/Internship
a) Research/Internship Plan must be written in detail describing the contents of the
Fieldwork Research.
b) Students must select a faculty member as an Advisor who specializes in themes
related to student’s research, write a research plan, and then obtain a signature and
seal of approval from the Advisor.
c) Students are also required to get advice from their Advisors throughout the entire
process of their research activities.
Fieldwork Research: Written Oath
Students must sign and seal under the agreement of the contents in written oath.
[Internship]
Plan for Fieldwork Research/Internship
a) Research/Internship Plan must be written in detail describing the contents of the
Internship.
b) Students must select a faculty member as an Advisor who specializes in themes
related to student’s research, write a research plan, and then obtain a signature and
seal of approval from the Advisor.
c) Students are also required to get advice from their Advisors throughout the entire
process of their research activities.
d) Attach documents introducing the organization or company, and the content of
Internship activities. (Photocopies of documents are also acceptable.)
Internship: Written Oath
Students must sign and seal under the agreement of the contents of written oath.
インターンシップ実習生受け入れ承諾書 (Internship: Letter of Acceptance)
The form must be filled out by the person in the organization/company in charge of the
Internship.
インターンシップ活動評価書(Internship: Evaluation Sheet)
The form must be filled out then sealed by the person in the organization/company in
charge of the Internship after the students have completed their Internship. Students
must attach this sheet to their reports.
The Academic Advisor or Internship Committee will screen the documents. Only students
who qualify after the screening will be eligible to register for the Fieldwork-related Courses
in the following semester. Copies of the submitted documents must be kept by students
themselves.
2. Place of Submission
CDP Office on the 1st floor of the Alpha Building
3. Period of Submission
The period of submission begins in mid-January for activities conducted during the spring
break, and early July for activities conducted during the summer break. Students must
confirm their period of submission on the bulletin board or on the website.
E.
Insurance
Although students are responsible for their activities during the Fieldwork Research, they are
recommended to take out an insurance against damage and/or loss. Students are also
recommended to have an adequate insurance to cover any unforeseen accident during their
travel or activities overseas.
It is mandatory for students undergoing Internship to have insurance. Detailed information
concerning insurance during an Internship is available at the Academic Affairs Office.
F.
Course Registration
Students who complete their research activities during the school break must register in one of
the Fieldwork-related Courses during the following semester. Students must carefully study
the course time table and register in such courses accordingly.
G.
Report
Those students who have registered for Fieldwork-related Courses must submit a report of
10,000 characters in Japanese or 4,000 words in English during the designated period (to be
determined and announced at a later date). Detailed information for submission of reports will
be posted on the bulletin boards located in the Alpha and Tau Buildings.
