Welcome to the Energy Pageant Competition, Institute of Petroleum and
Energy Marketers of Nigeria, a very unique and exciting professional Body with
a modest vibrant history, promising and sustainable Energy future, a
wonderful domain to learn and grow intellectually and professionally through
the Energy teaching and fundamental principles. IPEMN passes a wealth of
professional experience, a great desire and commitment to excellence.
Also, this competition is the first of its kind in the federation and the brain child
of the institute of Petroleum and Energy Marketers of Nigeria and the Soft
Management Centre Lagos, Nigeria.
We humbly maintain that this programme was designed to act as a clarion call
towards awakening our beloved youths in Nigeria and their fertile minds for
developing very strong, virile, effective, efficient and focused Nigerian youths
and raising the standard of Education and research in the Energy Sector in
Nigeria.
We truly understand that the Energy sector education no doubt, is always an
evolving one and requires raising the standard especially in Nigeria and this will
assist us in competing favourably with other countries in the world. This is
expected to support and promote our country’s quest for being among th 20
DEVELOPED countries of the world in the year 2020. The Nigerian vision 2020 a poverty reduction strategy, which includes the rehabilitation and Expansion
of physical and Social Infrastructure must be updated with requisite growth of
output through development of Human resources. Our youths have recognized
the growth of Energy Future not just in how but more importantly in our
actions.
We hereby note that we have solemnly determined to craft an energy future
which is sustainable.
I therefore invite you to visit our great Professional Body, and chart your

Education and research in the most Unique Professional for Energy Education
in the Africa continent.
INTRODUCTION:
The institute of Petroleum and Energy Marketers of Nigeria is a Professional
Membership Organization dedicated to the consistent Development of Human
Capital in the Energy and Allied Sectors in the African continent.
At the institute,We stand to promote public Education and awareness on the
Energy sector, encourage Research, endorse efficient supply, environmentally
responsible and safe use of Petroleum and all Energy Products and services.
The Institute of Petroleum and Energy Marketers is a modern professional
body for the Energy and allied Sectors. Our membership from the largest to
the smallest of independent Marketing/Trading companies, cuts across the
Marketing segments of the oil industry and the Energy Sector. They are
Producers, Refineries, Suppliers, Pipeline operators and Marine Transporters as
well as Services and Supply companies that support Oil and Energy products
and Marketing. Established as a Professional body to regulate The Training and
Practice of Petroleum and Energy Marketing in Nigeria.
The Institute is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the
Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the federal ministry of industry, trade
and investment.

organizations in membership stand to serve society with Independence,
Professionalism and a wealth of expertise in Petroleum and Energy Marketing
matters, thereby, creating home for Energy Marketers/Professionals.

Our vision is to raise professionals of Excellence, be a leading Professional Body
in Petroleum and Energy Marketing empowered through innovative Training,
Education and Research for sustainable development of Africa’s Energy and
allied sectors. (Petroleum, Transport, Maritime and Shipping Organizations).
Mission:
To be a leader in Petroleum and Energy matters through adequate Training,
Education and Research programmes while promoting Professionalism, Safety
and Ethical Practices for the benefit of Man and Society.
Aims and Objectives:

To promote knowledge related to the Petroleum industry, Petroleum
Marketing and Energy Subjects.
To promote knowledge and sound Professional Practice in the
Petroleum Marketing sub-sector of the Oil Industry and the Energy
Sector.
To advance public Education and awareness on Petroleum industry,
Petroleum and Energy Marketing activities and the Energy sector in
Nigeria.
To provide a Data Bank for Up-stream and Down-stream sectors of the
Oil and Gas industry, specifically relating to Petroleum Marketing
Operations and Practice in Nigeria.
To encourage Education and Research amongst the Academic in
Petroleum and Energy Marketing Operations and Practice including the
provision of Scholarship and Grants.
To conduct Professional Examinations and award Diploma, Advanced
diploma and Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Masters Certificate of
Competence and Specialized Professional Doctorate degree Certificates
to qualified candidates and allow successful candidates use the following
appellations – (A) students S (Inst. Pet. E. MN); (B) Associate A (Ins. Pet.
E. MN); (C) Member M(Ins. Pet, E. MN); (D) Fellow F (Ins. Pet, E. MN).
To associate with Local and foreign institutions /Organizations with
similar aims and objectives in the oil industry and Energy Sector

As a student undergoing any Academic or Vocational course of study, IPEMN
offers you Student Membership, or if you are just starting out, your first step
towards becoming Petroleum and Energy Marketing Professional starts with
IPEMN.
Associate:
This category of membership is for those who have Honors Degree, HND or an
assessed Academic equivalent and also, Graduates with little or no practical
experience.
Full Member:
In accordance with the rules and regulations of the Institute, a person is
admitted as a Full Member upon application, if he/she is a graduate member
of the Institute and has acquired the relevant Petroleum Marketing experience
or has completed any of the recognized examinations of the Institute.
Members of any other Professional Bodies are admitted after they have served
a specific period either in petroleum marketing, or management and
Administration, or Engineering Practice.
Fellow:
Fellow members are made up of Professionals from a wide range of petroleum
and Energy backgrounds that are committed to standards, Professional
development and leadership.

THE ENERGY QUIZ, 2016.
We truly understand and confirm that the future of this great nation Nigeria
lies solely in the hands of our youths who have been positively and properly
guided in their tender years of secondary and tertiary schools. How much and
the good we can obtain from them also lie on what they have been fed with all
these years. Also knowing that youths thrive where there are brain games and
sports, it therefore compels us to use this fast brain storming and cracking
approach (quiz) to drive home a point which every Nigerian is longing for and
eager to obtain. Again, being a mind game or sports, students strive to
measure their growth in knowledge, abilities and skill with the spirit of
competition to achieve individual and collective excellence or directly land on a
safe independent and crime free notion about self, family community,
association and leadership positions unadulterated in our nation, Nigeria.
The main objective of this project is to highlight and present an overview of
this project amongst our youths in the secondary school level through interschool quiz competitions for a better youth growth and empowerment.

Behind a unique project like this lies “The Next Energy Quiz Star”. Who will
emerge out of serious hard work, sleepless hours of study and research, long
hours of reading etc. This golden opportunity was created by (IPEMN) for our
Secondary Schools and the entire youths population in Nigeria and is expected
to bring the long awaited miracle of transforming our nation’s Educational and
economic system and awaken our youths to their responsibilities.
The Energy Quiz shall Commence by the Conduct of cut across the following
categories of youths:

Note: This Energy Quiz Competition will commence with Category B
MODE OF OPERATION:
The mode of operation directly deals with the various locations across the
Nation in which the programme is set to impact lives positively.
We shall cover six Political Zones in the country as indicated below:

3. Energy Quiz – What About?
This is all about educational excellence in the spirit of sportsmanship and
competition to encourage youths to strive more in the field of science and
especially in Energy related Subjects, including Petroleum, power and for the
sustainable development of Africa’s Energy sector.
Furthermore, participating schools and students will be brought to the
“Limelight” through Inter School programme like this challenge which unravels
the best whoever eventually grab the great opportunities in our nation’s
Energy Sector.
Energy Quiz – Who?
We intend to achieve this by creating awareness of these opportunities to the
various secondary schools in Nigeria via students in S.S.1 – S.S.III classes.
Students talents will be easily discovered and showcased as their zeal in
science related subjects will be torchlight without much persuasion and
pressure. Schools related subjects will be impacted positively.
The competition is a national based project, it will eventually be done using the
6 geo-political zones in Nigeria. The final competition where the overall winner
(The Next Energy Quiz Star) will emerge from will be hosted in Abuja (the
Federal Capital Territory). For a kick off, the three senatorial zones across all
states shall be affected.
Letters, memos of awareness information and invitations will be sent to
schools. In a space of three months (1 Term) the participating or interested
schools in the three zones will have series of local competitions where 3
students will presented by each school.
From these local competitions, it is expected that three (3) students emerge
from each of the three senatorial zones giving a participants for the qualifying
level.
Note that these local competitions will be empowered and sponsored fully by
(IPEMN), and participants will pay a token fee of one thousand Naira each.
The nine (9) winners from the 3 senatorial zones will then go for the qualifying
level within the next 3 months (another term) at a designated area, or zone
which the organizers will deem fit being the central place for the 3 zones out of
the (9) participants 3 will emerge as the best to go for the final selection which
will in turn produce the one (1) for the national level of competitionat Abuja. It
therefore implies that this project tends to complete, conclude and round off
this project within the time space of 1 year (3 terms/a School session).
Energy Quiz – How?
From local level of competition to the qualifying level, participating schools and
students will be encouraged and sponsored by (i) Cash Prizes, gift like (ii)
School Science equipment (iii) Science books for Schools library and individual
use etc (iv) one term or 1 year scholarship award to outstanding students as
the case may be, free/sponsored trips to special areas like the Nations
Petroleum and Energy Companies, Companies and establishments where one
man’s effort is ruling the world around them etc.
At the final level in Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) the distribution of prizes
will be as follows:
 3rd Place ………………… N250,000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira)
 2nd Place………………….N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira)
 1st Place…………………...N1,000,000 (One Million Naira)
These will be followed by lots of consolation prizes for project co-ordinators,
planners, judges, school heads and Association Heads etc.
Energy Quiz –Why?
In view of the current bleakness of our nation’s economic status especially the
Energy sector, this project is designed to:
i.
Arouse, awake and revive the conscience of our youths by bringing
back and reviving their lost interest in science and related subjects.
ii.
Creating and solidifying their sense of belonging and ownership of
this great nation by taking bold steps in challenging the decaying
system that is available now and replacing, recreating and reforming
it with the wealth of ideas, experience and empowerment which this
project will offer eventually.
iii.
Being aware that the future of this nation lies with them and that
they (the youths) are the only and alternative hope of our nation.
They will take up the mantle with boldness and confront the so called
high and the mighty (retrieving from their hands and families the
monopoly) of our nation’s economy and status.
