• §115.6. Health Education, Grade 4.

• (b) Knowledge and skills.

(1) Health information. The student recognizes ways to enhance and maintain health throughout the life span. The student is expected to:

(B) identify information on menus and food labels;

(D) explain the physical, mental, and social benefits of fitness;

(F) identify the importance of taking personal responsibility for developing and maintaining a personal health plan such as fitness, nutrition, stress management, and personal safety.

(2) Health information. The student recognizes the basic structures and functions of the human body and how they relate to personal health throughout the life span. The student is expected to:

(A) describe how health behaviors affect body systems; and

(B) describe the basic function of major body systems such as the circulatory and digestive systems.

(A) explain how the media can influence health behaviors; and

(B) describe ways technology can influence health.

Group Activity

• Students will measure heart rate before and after running in place for 2 minutes.

• Students will observe a physical model of the circulatory system in action.

Solo Activities

• Students will complete a diagram representing the circulatory system by labeling major organs/parts and by coloring them in.

– identify the importance of taking personal responsibility for developing and maintaining a personal health plan such as fitness, nutrition, stress management, and personal safety.

– explain how the media can influence health behaviors

– describe ways technology can influence health

– …or any topic related to the circulatory system that is approved by the instructor prior to starting the project.

• Students will complete a diagram of the heart by labeling and coloring in its main parts.
