Byron Hernandez Prof. Jacobs 11/15/10 Abortion has been a controversial topic in America for a few years. It is a topic that was born from deciding what a woman can and can’t do. The sides on the abortion topic are the side that says it’s the women’s choice to determine if she wants to get an abortion known as the prochoice movement or the group that says the child should be born no matter what or known as the pro-life movement. Both groups list many reasons for why they believe in that belief and what caused them to have that belief. What people in America should believe in is that it’s the woman’s choice if she wants to get the abortion or not. The pro-choice movement is the movement that says the woman has the choice of whether she wants to get the abortion or not. The woman is the only person that can decide this because she is the person that will have to deal with it for the rest of their life. The reason that a woman would choose abortion because of the causes would have caused her to get pregnant in the first place. The woman could have gotten pregnant from incest to bad protection all the way to rape. The woman is the only person that should decide what she wants to do with her body; not the government and not other people. The way the woman got pregnant or what can happen during the pregnancy is the main reason that the woman would get the abortion. The pregnancy caused by rape or incest can cause a woman to not want to do anything with that child because it would remind her of the event that caused her to get pregnant in the first place. The danger that could happen to do mother if the child was born can cause a mother to get an abortion because if they gave birth it might cause great harm to the mother causing the child to grow up without a mother. There are other reasons that a woman might want to get an abortion but those are not really a good reason to get an abortion in the first place. Some of those reasons could be not be able to support the baby or the woman doesn’t want any more children in the first place. The government decided that getting an abortion is illegal than it would more bad than good. Making a woman give birth to a child that she doesn’t want is the worst thing that you can have happen on the child. The forced birth would cause the child to be either neglected or abandoned. Studies have shown that children that are neglected or abandoned are more likely to commit crime than those that are cared for and actually have parents (3). Not only will abortion allow woman to get rid of the child they do not want it will also decrease the crime in America because of there being less abandoned kids out in the streets (3). Making abortion illegal would have disastrous effects with woman everywhere. With woman not being able to get abortion the legal way it will cause the woman to use homemade methods in order to get rid of the child. This will only lead to woman causing more harm to their bodies than anything else. It is only when this is seen that the government will see that damage that they are causing people for deciding something they shouldn’t be deciding in the first place. The only person that should be deciding what to do with a woman’s body is the woman herself. Some groups might say that abortion is wrong and that the child growing should be born but those groups don’t think of the consequences that come from their action. Making abortion illegal will cause a giant increase in illegal abortion being made. This will not only increase the abortion rate but will also cause the number of death happening to increase heavily. This will be a terrible and it might be necessary in order to show the government that they can’t control what shouldn’t be controlled in the first place. Woman should have the right to decide what they want to do to their body because it’s their body and only theirs. Studies done about abortion have shown that woman get abortion because they don’t want the child, got it because of rape, the mother’s health is threaten or the child might grow up with a defect and the mother doesn’t want the child to grow up like that.
