Rules/Regulations
I, in conjunction with EF personnel and Lords of the Divisions, are
responsible for the safety and reputation of this group.
Accordingly, anything that anyone does to jeopardize the safety or
reputation of the group will be taken extremely seriously.
Typically, if a student’s conduct necessitates punitive action on my
behalf, they just became my best friend. They will complete the
rest of the tour at my side – not beside their friends, they will eat
all meals with me, special rooming arrangements will be made so
that they aren’t in the same room as their friends etc. Please note
that, if at any time, a student participant’s conduct requires them to
be sent home during the trip, that will be at the sole cost of their
parent(s). If an adult participant’s conduct requires them to be sent
home during the trip, they will simply not be part of the group any
longer. All travel documents will be provided to the adult
participants and they will be responsible for arranging their
departure back home. Please understand that the safety and
integrity of our group is our highest priority.

Helpful Concluding Tips
1. We will be visiting very popular areas of Ireland and the United
Kingdom. The crowds in the urban areas will be dense and
"always there." It will be Easter which is an important holiday
season with many people traveling. Remember the “Division"
and go no-where alone.
2. Guard against pick pockets and purse snatchers by carrying your
day pack or purse across your chest, especially on public
transport, on escalators or moving platforms or in crowded
plazas. Keep each day's spending money separate from your
main bankroll so you don't have to "dig" for funds in a public
place. Consider wearing a money belt or pouch under your
clothing - I know it can be a bit uncomfortable but it works. And
no "fanny packs"!!
3. Your bank card will probably work at ATMs - if it has a 4 digit pin
number - and the ATM displays the necessary logo. But it won't
work to buy stuff from stores.
Helpful Concluding Tips Continued
4. Use the washroom whenever you have a chance. Toilets are
scarce and there can be a charge to use them! Up to a Pound/Euro
each time! McDonalds is a good choice - more or less clean,
"American style" facilities.
5. When you're buying lunch you'll be doing so independently from
the main group, most likely. Remember the following: (a) menus
are posted outside; check them before you enter (b) the same
meal will cost at least double if you have "table service". So
buy and eat "take away" style, like the locals do.
6. If you're using conventional film in your camera, bring lots with
you. It's really expensive "over there.” Same goes for photo
cards!
7. Drink lots of water – we are walking A LOT! – Empty water
bottles through the airports though . . .
Helpful Concluding Tips Continued
8. Fill the corners of your suitcase with cereal bars, a small
flashlight, a travel alarm clock. Put a few bars and a bottle of
water in your carry-on luggage as well - it's an 7 hour flight to
London and airline food these days is unpredictable, to put it
kindly (although some has been decent as of late).
9. Keep phone calls home to a minimum - maybe only for
emergencies? Your cell almost certainly won't work and
calling from your hotel room will cause the hotel to add huge
"service charges" to your bill. Even phone cards work
unevenly. Using the "Canada Direct" number works
sometimes but many public phones block out the access
numbers and force you to use their own, more expensive
service. Be warned!! You get a 5 minute card from EF.
Helpful Concluding Tips Continued
10. Any room charges you incur overnight have to be cleared, by you,
before any of us can leave each morning!! So, stay out of the
mini-bar - even for pop and nuts!! You won't be popular if you
and your room mates get into a big argument at 7.30 am over who
had all that pop that now costs 25 euros!!!
11. Think carefully about the contents of your carry-on luggage and
personal accessories. Discard anything that can be considered a
"sharp" object or a potential "weapon". On one trip I went on we
had a wallet chain and a computer security chain confiscated - and
that was just in our small group of 5 people!
12. If you're taking any liquid products in your checked bag, put
them in a baggie. If they leak - and they probably will - the mess
will be minimal. Any pressurized, aerosol-type product is best left
at home.
