Late 1800s Labor Movement Presentations
Directions: Your group will be assigned a particular labor union or individual to research. You
will then present your findings in a 5-7 minute presentation to the entire class. Every group
member must speak in the presentation.
Driving Question:
Why did labor unions form?
As you do your research, be sure to address the following topics in your PowerPoint. If you are
assigned an individual, be sure to address the same questions BUT also include which movement
the individual was involved with and what their impact on the movement was.
The beginning of the labor union movement (late 1800’s - early 1900’s)
What caused labor unions to form
What problems unions worked to fix (and did fix)
What tactics unions used to achieve their goals (give specific examples)
How the government was involved with this movement
What laws were created to protect workers and unions
How this movement changed the course of U.S. history (including how it affects us today)
