Ventura High Softball – If you are interested in playing softball at Ventura High this season, contact Carly Camarillo, here on campus. Mashed Potatoes – Donations of non- perishable mashed potatoes and gravy to feed 100 plus families this season will be accepted in rooms E-107, F-104, H-107, H-108, I-104, I-108, and front office! Deadline is November 16th! Also look out for the money jug in the quad at lunch. Buena High Swim/Dive Team - All new and returning swim/dive team members must attend one of four meetings to sign up. Meeting location will be Room 153 during lunch or right after school on Wednesday November 14th or Thursday November 15th. Any questions prior to the meeting contact Mr. Siman in the boy’s PE office or Ms. Graves in Room 153. Are Our Grocery Stores Properly Labeling Fish? Participate in the DNA Barcoding of Fish Samples to find out! In this 4 day after school program taught by Mrs. Duffy, you will learn how to use a micropipette as you isolate DNA from grocery store fish samples in the Foothill Technology High School Lab. Once the DNA is isolated, you will copy a specific gene using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and then use gel electrophoresis to verify your success. Your samples will be sent to be sequenced and then you will use Bioinformatics to compare your results to the global database to find out if our grocery stores properly labeling fish. Want to join in the research project? You must be able to attend all session and provide your own ride home. All sessions will be held in E105 from 3-5pm. Million Dollar Idea – Have a million dollar idea for a business or service? Think you’d do well on shows like “Shark Tank” or The Apprentice?” Are you interested in entrepreneurship? Or do you want something awesome to put on your resume or college app? If so you might be the right person to compete for cash prizes in the Ventura Pitch Competition! Your job is to come up with an idea – put together a presentation 3-5 min long and no more than 9 PowerPoint slides. If you make the cut, you’ll compete on November 29th at City Hall against other local students for the best pitch and a $250 Prize for first place.
