Common Nouns
• Common Nouns are any person, place, or
thing. Common nouns are not
capitalized.

Proper Nouns
• Proper Nouns are the name of a special
person, place, or thing. Proper nouns are
capitalized.
–Dallas
–Officer Walker
–New York Times
Plural and Singular Nouns
Plural Nouns
• A plural form of a noun
names more than one. It
usually ends with s or es.
Write P if the noun below is plural. Write S
if the noun below is singular.

• Concrete Nouns: Can be perceived by at least
one of the five senses (sight, hearing, smell,
touch, taste). EX: Chair, John
• Abstract Nouns: Cannot be perceived by any
of the five senses. They are usually emotions,
ideals, or concepts. EX: Freedom, love,
sadness.
