Tugasan – ada dua tugasan bertulis yang perlu disiapkan, pertama perlu dihantar pada minggu ke-8 dan kedua pada PERTEMUAN AKHIR. Setiap tugasan bernilai 20% (semuanya 40%) dan tugasan mesti dihantar pada masa yang ditetapkan. 2. Peperiksaanpertengahan semester – peperiksaanakandiadakanpadatarikh yang ditetapkanbernilai20%. Class PRESENTATION bernilai 10%. Tugasan 1 Assignment 1 (Individual): Quality has become so controversial in higher education. There are several potential causes. Some people feel the term used embraces the values inappropriate and threatening to higher education purposes, core services and products. The controversy also relates to power and change affecting the higher education environment. Various quality models described the relevant approaches in quality management. Academic staff, students and administrators emphasize different quality aspects. At the same time, the government sees quality as a necessity and a mechanism of monitoring with regard to the concept of accountability. Discuss the points raised in the above phenomena and show how the concept of quality management is relevant to the higher education institutions especially to higher education institutions in Malaysia or in your country. Give examples on how the higher education institutions give responses to the demand on quality. In writing your assignment, you have to refer to at least five journal articles such as Quality in Higher Education, Quality Assurance in Education, Higher Education Management and Policy, Higher Education Quarterly and Higher Education to assist you in writing the assignment. A copy of the journals’ abstract must be attached to your assignment. You are required to make a 10 minutes presentation of your work beginning on week 4. The final individual presentation is on week 8. Assignment 2 (In a group of 2 students): There are various models of quality management in higher education institutions. Choose a model and explain in detail about the model and its suitability to higher education institutions. You are required to choose two higher education institutions that utilize the quality model in their organizations and make comparisons between the two institutions about the quality movement. You are required to select one local higher education institution and one higher education institution from outside Malaysia. You are also required to critically analyze the quality management practices of the chosen institutions and make suggestions on ways to improve the quality management practices based on the literature on quality management. Write a 10 – 25 pages report based on your analysis. Alternatively, you can conduct an interview with a quality management officer from any higher learning institutions and write a 10 – 25 pages report of your findings about quality management of the chosen institution. You have to make a 10 minutes presentation beginning on week 10. The last presentation is on week 12. Final exam: There will be a final exam worth 30% conducted at the end of the semester.
