This generation must learn more than their parents’ to do as well. All children are capable of learning and thinking at a high level. Children in Tennessee are as talented as any in the country and often capable of more than we expect. Our current education results pose a real threat to state and national competitiveness and security. Improving the skills of our children is vital for the future of Tennessee and America. Tennessee is on a mission to become the fastest improving state in the nation. Doing so will require hard work and significant learning for all. We must learn to teach in ways we were not taught ourselves. There is no recipe that will deliver a successful transition. Preparing for Common Core will demand effective leadership focused on student growth. PARCC is coming in two years. We need to use the transition wisely to make sure our students and our state are ready. 12 VIDEO 3 - TN DOE: CONTEXT ON THIS TRAINING 13 Agenda for Day 1 (Grades K-2) Time Session 8:00 - 9:00 Opening Session Part 1 9:00 - 10:30 Breakout 1 10:30 – 11:00 Opening Session Part 2 11:00 - 12:15 Lunch 12:45 - 4:00 Breakout 2 14 Agenda for Day 2 (Grades K-2) Time Session 8:00 – 11:15 Breakout 3 11:15 – 12:30 Lunch 12:30 – 3:30 Breakout 4 3:30 – 4:00 Closing 15 VIDEO 4 – MATH CORE COACHES: THOUGHTS ON EDUCATION AND THIS TRAINING 16 STRATEGIC PLAN Opening Session Module 2 VIDEO 5 - TN DOE: COMMON CORE TRANSITION PLAN, MATH K-2 18 Welcome to www.tncore.org! 19 Available Resources • 2013-2014 Common Core Implementation Plan • Common Core History and Fact Sheet 20 Math Resources on www.TNCore.org 21 Available Resources 22 Focus Standards and 2013-14 Focus Clusters 23 LOG-IN INFORMATION • Tennessee provides all educators with access to the resources on www.TNCore.org • Some of the materials may be password protected.
